Sylvan is a band from my hometown Hamburg, and every year they play a christmas show. It is a very familar event. Saw them last year on Night of the Prog and had the chance to talk to each one of them. Shine on ;-)

No I haven't! I'm sort of aware of Leo's singing abilities, but not like that! So that makes four really good singers in POS! (Counting Per as a member)

Black metal shmlack metal. Ulver is no more black metal than Rick Atsley. They had 3 black metal albums in the beginning (which are still very good) and have gone about doing there own thing every since. I see you got Blood Inside, which is a very good album. However my favorites are Shadows of the Sun ( a real masterpiece) and Perdition City. Mostly electronic/classical, but you can hear all their influences.

No, I don't think I've ever listened to more than one song. I'll be sure to check it out. But man, I cannot believe you have not played any Ulver. That is something you seriously need to start experiencing.

I know Night really well, it is amazing! (Notice that Massive Illusion is one of my top played tracks) And for 2011, the ones you mentioned should be great, but also the two Devin Townsend albums Deconstruction and Ghost and a whole bunch of other cool albums I'm forgetting!

Yeah it was pretty rough, I'm lucky that 2010 was such a kickass year in music to keep me entertained during hospital stays and general boredom! And 2011 should be just as good, hopefully.

Wow four months? That's rough, man! I mean, I had mono for two months without knowing what is was, but damn! It's good that your better, though, and I can't wait to hear your song! About my wrist, I broke it playing a particularly rough game of street hockey, and since then one doctor messed up casting it so it had to be rebroken and pinned. Hopefully it'll finally get better soon, it's been a good 9 weeks since it first broke.

Decent, I guess. My wrist has been going through multiple surgeries so I'm unable to play instruments, I've taken up Bowling instead. I don't have a whole lot going on, I usually prefer to just stay at home and read. How about you? How's drumming and Karma Coat going?

Well articulated. I agree on most things and I do miss the sound of the band and their cohesion but I think that albums like Amused to Death and The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking have the 'spirit' of Floyd, and can almost be considered Pink Floyd albums in the sense that that was obviously the direction the Floyd were going in with the progression from Animals to the Wall to The Final Cut- he retained that direction of progression and they reverted back to an older sound + some 80s cliches. Also in comparing their live shows, his "In the Flesh" disks to their "Pulse" it's his one to me that sounds more like Floyd, it has 'the sound'- esspecially the tracks from The Wall, he achieved this 'big' sound that emphasised all the big, dynamic notes- Then you hear Gilmour trying to sing Hey You or Run Like Hell and it sounds all wrong. Sorry if I had a go at you- there was this "Roger Waters is a wanker" group where stuff like this was brought up and I still disagree. Credit where credit is due

TheBehind- Pulling a Roger Waters? - If you're referring to the firing of Rick Wright... If you are the only actively creative person in a band because you work at a pace the other members either can't or have no wish to keep up with, and you're responsible for nearly all of the conceptual and musical components of the last 4 albums... I don't see a problem with firing people who are getting in the way of the progress of the band. It's not that he didn't *let* them write anything, they just mostly didn't, because he wrote it all already and then there was an album, rinse, repeat. Gilmour got to write a bit on Animals and The Wall and his ability still shines through on The Final Cut... Anyway, Roger *was* the band, and that's obvious when you look at what they became without him, and his material in comparison. Even if you remove my subjective preference for Waters, his work is objectively more inventive, progressive and ambitious than their unintentional parody of their earlier days.

It's like a collaboration thing with only 2 others involved so far.... as in I (or someone else) come up with an idea and record my parts, and send it to the others and have them add their own part, and I mix it all together.

Ha, nice! Oh by the way tell me when you're able to record drums, because I'm starting an online project and currently I'm having to do the drums, which is not really my instrument...

Oh, make sure it's DEAR Hunter, not DEER hunter, because that's a different band......... Old school gypsy jazz......sounds righteous!

Well the vocals has to be compressed VERY highly, but maybe I'm just making excuses. About your band, I REALLY REALLY dig the song "Listen" I've actually been playing that a lot. You have a nice dark atmosphere to your music. I've heard of Latcho Drom, listened some actually, but not much else of Gypsy jazz. I've been listening to this band called the Dear Hunter actually. Their a lot like Pain of Salvation in their lyrics and concept, although different music-wise....
