Been away teaching on Heron Island - just back last night. How about you? How's west coast life?

Cyclone was North of here. And I was down in Tassie on a salmon farm anyway - enjoying 14 hour days of hard physical work away from the heat and humidity.

Water is at the bottom of my street but the house is dry. I have some friends staying whose house went under but we got all of their stuff out before the water got in. Going to be a difficult few days/weeks because of power/water/sewerage/food supplies but seems to be being handled well by local, state and federal government. I guess Australia is used to natural disasters - bush fires and cyclones are an annual event - but this was pretty intense. The stuff coming down the river is totally unbelievable

Sounds like a fun project:) I have an old steel vikng and a BSA, but both in the UK and my dad's probably canned them by now:( Clubs are a good idea for finding new rides and social. When i went up the sunny coast I just turned up at a coffe shop at 6.00 am and there was a bunch going out from there, so I tagged along. Coffee shops here always have informal bike groups associated with them:)

Happy New Year to you too! Its rained almost all summer here (area the size of France and Germany completely flooded - makes you realise how big Queensland is!) Got a good week up in the Sunshine Coast cycling in the Hinterland in the early mornings and then beaching it for the rest of the day:) Stacked my bike yesterday so ego, body and bike a bit battered.

Nice wheels for sure, and that Bianchi is a good price. I was trying to find a sweet Pinarello as they have retained all the sweeping curves that Bianchi have lost in the last coupla years but their website us pure suckage:(

Just back from Adelaide - went to watch the Tour. fantastic. Got some really nice shots of the stages. Beautiful part of the world as well - Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Clare valley, McLaren vale all within about 30 min drive of Adelaide and the tour went through all of them. Definitely biased towards the sprinters though, they need to introduce a time trial next year:)

The legs are fast at present. I did 100 km in 2h 50 min last Wednesday - that included all the stops for junctions and traffic lights and I was on my own so I was flying! Happy holidays!

No vibrams, but i did buy the wheels!! - they arrived saturday and they are just too beautiful for words. Will be wednesday before I get them glued up and on the bike though. Forgotten what a pain setting up new tubs was. Will use the time to set the bike up for time trials - I rejoined Trathlon Australia and have signed up for the Mooloolaba multisport festival in March. I was planning to do a 160km race in stage 4 of the tour down under (i'm booked into go watch!), but doing 120 km in the morning at present and it is munching my back - so back to tries and 40 km TT. May do an 82 km TT in April. How's Ruby and when do you move?

Sorry about Ruby. Tarka did much the same - acccelerated too hard in her usual 40km/h lap of the park and strained something. She was yelping and whining on and off for about 3 weeks, but wouldn't stop doing the fast lap every morning unless i put the lead on her. Think I've decided to stay put. I'm not done with Australia yet. And the thought of no cycling is just too much, so though the money is just super awesome (about 3 times what I'm on now and 10% tax instead of 42%), I just can't do it. - There's more to life than money (unless you don't have it, I guess)

I really fancy north western US - california, oregon, washington and BC. Great for doggies. Move to Singapore would be to reclaim the corporate dollar I lost when I moved into academia. I am tiring a little of the chaotic disorganisation and pompous twattery that seems to be compulsory in Universities. Love teaching and students and stuff though and love living in Oz so its a toughie. Nice to be wanted though:)

I get the impression a move back to Cali would suit you just fine. Better weather than Western Mass. Any news on the employment front? I might be moving to Singapore.

Christmas list:) Along with the bike wheels. I am running again and I do want to try them. I actually saw someone running up the hill outside my house wearing some the other day and he didn't seem to be in any terrible pain and was moving quite well, so...

Not yet - they have them in a shop oin the CBD now so I'm gonna check them out first hand and try some on next time I get a day off. Also trying to save for some new wheels - going about as fast as i can on my current ones and they're a bit heavy and twangy. Want some high profile aero wheels for tri's. How's the job hunt going? Any success yet?

On Heron Island with 100 students since Thursday. Won't be back home until 4th October. Bandwidth is crazy slow here, no mobile phone either so kind of cut off. Dust storm was just unbelievable. It was the one day that i was in Brisbane between Prague and herer and I went for a ride just before it hit. Gritty teeeth for a day and everything covered in dust, even with the windows closed. Really horrible, but amazing sunset:)

A work ethic can really mess things up. Just about to board my flight. 9/11 is a quiet and cheap day to fly. London tomorrow then Prague enjoy your 30 days. Hope something works out soon.

I'm really sorry to hear about your job - I got the impression you foound it reasonably fulfilling. Apart from hibernation, what's on the cards? Anything in the foreseeable future? That's what happens when a bunch of bankers are given free reign to fuck with people's lives.

Gregory's girl was one of my favourites - I guess its hard to get in the US because it probably hasn't been converted to NCTC from PAL. You could get a PAL DVD from amazon UK if your DVD player is multi region. I leave for Prague on Friday Lunchtime. back here for a day on 24th then upto Heron on 25th until 3rd October. Only 90 lucky students this time so it shouldn't be quite as fraught as the last trip. Weather should be better too.

A somewhat crash-tastic stage in the Vuelta today. Odds on a protest by the riders tomorrow pretty high, I think. They looked pretty annoyed at the end.

No! I am doing lots of biking and absolutely no running. That has to change soon as I'm off to Prague and I won't be able to bike there. MIght go for a wee run tonight if I haven't been totally destroyed by needy students. I'll look at the Vibrams on Amazon again and order them (try not to order a whole bunch of CDs at the same time).

That was extraordinarily funny. I ache with laughing. Fowarded it to a few friends. The heat hit here for the first time this spring - 32°C - just beautiful and warm enough in the morning to ride without arm and kneewarmers. No black for me today, just boardies and a t-shirt:)
