Je sais (d'experiénce!) que Montréal en janvier est crisse froide, mais après l'hiver - c'est la meilleure ville au Canada. :]

Thanks for the recommendations, have heard some of them, but always good to find new ones. I completely agree about Hammer Open Air-I didn't end up going this year after all and was disappointed to have missed last year and the great line-up then. Did you end up in Europe at all this summer for any festivals? I see that they are having another MDM this November in Montreal...some great bands this year again (even with some repeats from last year).

Hey Patrick sorry for a late response--been busy and don't really check this page so often! I really enjoyed the festival in Montreal, one of the best I've been to in a long time. It was nice that Forteresse played after all, but I think maybe Csjethe was my favorite band of the fest. Angantryr was okay, but wasn't quite like I had hoped. The venue was also really great (and I liked the l'alchemist beer you recommended). As for comparison to Norway, I feel that Norwegian crowds do not really show their engagement so much---not too much headbanging or moving around, they are pretty mellow and just stand there. So the concert in Montreal was a nice change from this :) Also, Montreal in itself is always a wonderful place to be! Which bands were your favorites for the night? Looks like you have a lot of concerts on your calendar! Haven't heard of any of the bands playing at the Black Metal Origines....any recommendations?

Yeah, it is extremely expensive here-I'm living in Bergen, so at least it's slightly less expensive than Oslo. Did you learn any Norwegian on your travels?? Probably at least skål, i imagine :) I think the language is fairly easy to learn as long as one avoids being lazy and speaking English. It took me less than a year to find a job where I could only speak Norwegian---although after almost 4 years here I still have some accent and make some mistakes. The thing that makes it more difficult are the hundreds of different dialects that people speak. It's too bad French is not so easy to learn, at least for me when I tried some years ago in high school. Have you learned any other languages than French and English? Also, did you enjoy the Impiety and Arkona concerts??

Well, it's worth it to come for such a good show--not too many bands from Quebec playing in Norway, or even New York. Just ordered my two-day pass today! Where have you been in Norway before?? I've been to Quebec City once and to Montreal many times for shows, since I'm from upstate New York (Albany). Haven't been to Montreal since before I moved a few years ago though. I've never been to this Catacombes venue either, but it looks quite cool and "dark".

Choirs of the Eye will always be my favourite album of theirs, but I also really enjoy their newer material. Coyote is more jazz-like in comparison, but it's still really good imo. The vocals do take some getting used to, but they make up a small fraction of the music anyways, so they're not significant. Toby Driver has his own side project which you might want to give a listen to. btw extremely short notice, but I'm going to be in Montreal from tomorrow afternoon to Sunday afternoon before I have to go back to school Tuesday =/

I think that's the full album now? ^^ Anyways, I get the feeling that the lyrics for this song are about unrequited love and feeling unwanted. Or, it could just be about feeling unappreciated in general. Gris' lyrics are very melancholic but there's a kind of haunting beauty to them.

Yes, usually scars are a metaphor for traumatic events; they can be a reminder of the obstacles that have been overcome. I think this track is probably saying that you can only be at peace when you die because you can't feel anymore. Oh hmm that's interesting, I thought Deathspell Omega was one of those bands that didn't release lyrics, but I just looked them up on metal archives. The album kind of reminds me of Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum, which is probably my favourite album of theirs.

The interpretation for those lyrics is a bit more obvious, I think. Definitely about suicide and feeling delusional. it almost seems to beautify and glorify suicide. Thanks for the translation again. Btw what do you think of the new Deathspell?
