I do remember you actually. I'm glad you were into it, it takes awhile to really acquire a taste for them, but once you do it seems hard to know why you didn't originally. I hope your music searching goes well, If you can get copies of the 4 live compilations that the guy from Lustmord compiled they're definitely worth it.

hey, i'm good thanks. been working on more musick, this time acidy splattery industrial gubbins and glitchy drum and/or bass, all with no real sense of time or taste: [artist]unaesthetic[/artist] :quite different from the special victim stuff, mostly just getting drunk and making analogue noise ;)

Yeah E.N. was an early favorite for me too. Never much cared for 20 Jazz Funk Greats by comparison to other Throbbing Gristle. A lot of the noisier end is an acquired taste. I don't know if I expect you to get into any of it, but I figured you might download some and then 6 months later think about listening to it again and it will move in slowly on you. That's how Skinny Puppy's Last Rights worked for me anyhow.

What've you listened to you liked? I like the new throbbing gristle a lot (part 2, 32nd annual report, third mind movement etc.) probably because of how much of coil's sound sleazy brought with him. I still think 1st annual report is the best TG I've heard, but it may not be the best place to start?

DOA's a bit noisier but a *lot* darker. TG considered 20JFG their "camouflage" album - it looks sweet and innocent and starts out sounding innocuous enough but then spirals into the usual TG nastiness... does your version have "discipline" at the end (2 versions) - a great, great track. btw, please have a listen to my current efforts: [artist]special victim[/artist]...

i'd go for DOA or 20 jazz funk greats by throbbing gristle. more thought-through than the first record. actually their newest album "part two the endless knot" is cool, but has much more of a feel of later coil to it than TG.

The list is a little overkill, but why underwhelm when you can overwhelm? I also imagine you won't like all of it, so more was needed to fill the holes.

@unaesthetic: Early whitehouse is intellectually vapid, but I think their latter stuff is stimulating on an intellectual front. It's hard to defend PE since it does tend to be very one note, and I'm not all that interested in the tales of sexual assault, but there's some good noise in that genre if that's your cup of tea.

It is indeed. I personally prefer Warsaw to JD, especially the track At A Later Date. It's good shit.

i've never heard the term post-industrial used to refer to skuppy and fla before... it;s generally used to describe what came out of the first-wave scene that wasn't strictly industrial itself - hence neofolk, martial, neoclassical, dark ambient etc all get lumped in as post-industrial. i've never really been comfortable with the term (although i don't mind post-punk as a term)... i'd call the first few skuppy releases as industrial as anything else coming out at the time. i'd call skuppy and fla simply electro-industrial. and i dunno about you, but i find most of the early power electronics stuff to be quite pathetic - it's even more childish in its need to be shocking than punk. this particularly goes for whitehouse. the music is underwhelming and has the intellectual content of a fourteen-year-old heavy metal fan. NON is much more musically satisfying and intellectually stimulating.

That extended into a lot of not first generation industrial but it's in the general vicinity and spirit of it.

throbbing gristle = first annual report. SPK = AutoDaFe although that's technically a collection of their singles, Cabaret Voltaire = The Living Legends, also a collection of their early singles, Whitehouse's later albums are more digestible (Asceticist or Racket being my recommendation to start) although if you're looking for their early power electronics sound I'd try Total Sex, Sutcliffe Jugend's VIctim as Beauty, although that is also Power Electronics, Test Dept's Unacceptable Face of Freedom, White Hospital's Holocaust if you can actually find it, Nurse With Wound's Alice and the Goons, Scraping Foetus off the Wheel's Nail, NON's Easy Listening for the Iron Youth, also a compilation of his early works (or God and Beast for a later more accessible start) Coil's Scatology (their first album), Controlled Bleedings Shanked and Slithered which is a compilation of their early noise stuff, Einsturzende Neaubautens Halber Mench and Merzbow's Tauromachine.

you know bill leeb was originally in skuppy before going off to do FLA and seventeen other bands that all use the same samples? well there was a "what if" project with cevin key, d.r. goettel and leeb called [artist]cyberaktif[/artist] which was really lovely.
