the reason they "skipped answers" about the island is because it's a TV show. they don't want to give you all the answers. they want to keep you guessing and they want to leave the ending up to everyone's own personal interpretation. different people interpret it different ways based on their belief systems and their life experiences, and that's exactly how the creators want it to be. it wouldn't be LOST if they laid out all the answers for us. they want this show to be something that people think about for a long time, therefore, they want to keep people guessing.

the island, in my personal opinion, was a place to get tested. essentially, a purgatory. everyone had to go through purgatory, and some got out sooner than others. not all of the characters we knew were present in the church (Michael, for example) so this means that either they are still on the island (in purgatory) or they went somewhere other than the place where everyone else was going (essentially, heaven). the light is how it was explained a few episodes ago. that light is the heart of the island. that light also is present in everyone's heart. if the main light goes out, everyone's light goes out and everyone and everything turns bad. the man in black became mortal because desmond turned the light off. the reasoning is that the man in black IS the smoke monster BECAUSE of the light. well, if the light doesn't exist anymore, then neither does the smoke monster.

basically how I interpreted it is that in the flash sideways, they were all dead all along. they thought they were off the island, but really they were in what was soon to be heaven. on the island, they were actually alive. that's why everyone had to wait for jack to die before going into the church so they could all go to heaven together at once. idk if you watched jimmy kimmel afterwards, but he put it very well. he said that he believes that everyone died during the first episode of season six when they were on the plane experiencing turbulence. once the turbulence subsided, they were dead and in this sort of pre-heaven, where they had to discover each other and then get together to go to heaven. during the turbulence, right before they died, in that split second, EVERYTHING that ever happened on the island happened just then. it's an interesting theory that I had never thought about, but I like the idea of it. I hope that helps you find some answers to the show haha :)

the dallas show WAS amazing. like, one of the top shows i've ever been to (was also my first time seeing them).
