Chapter I - The Story begins

Driven by the wish to create something special, Alexander Dunkl, a young guitarplayer from Graz (Styria / Austria), decidet to found a band. After some success with former projects, it was the year 1995 when he asked the drummer Wolfgang Scheidl and keyboard player Orestis Tsaklidis, to join him under the name Scarecrow. With Alexander Stiplosek at the bass and vocalist Harald Mauerlechner, the Five-Pack was completed. Like most bands of this time, Scarecrow made their first steps under the banner of deathmetal. Typicaly, for an underground band, were the titles of their first songs: Kesselraum or Chicken Mc Nuggets, just to name two of this creations. First success came to the band by reaching the finals of Bandbattle in autumn 1995, on the stage of vienna's Planet Music.
1996, after many gigs in Austria where they convinced the audience with their live qualities, Sacrecrow played their first concert in Germany. Frankfurt an der Oder will never be forgotten.
This year the first Demo Tape was recorded and many positive reviews entered the band's mailbox. It became clear, in which direction the guitars of Alex would go. The brutal powerchords were more often replaced by powerful virtuosity.

Chapter II - First Changes

At this time, the first change in the line up of Scarecrow was made. Bassplayer Alex Stiplosek was replaced by Robert Hackl, who brought some new ideas with his unorthodox way of life. Also the way, their music sounded would change soon. The time of growling, powerfull guitars and drums as well as spheric keyboards was over. After the leaving of vocalist Harald and short appearences of Canbis Maschajeki and Andreas Krammer, Johannes Hoebel took his place behind the microphones.
With the joining of the charismatic singer, not only the line up had changed. Deathmetal was no longer the sound of their choice.

Chapter III - Hardcore? Industrial, or something else?

More and more, the elements of hardcore and industrial found their way into the music of Scarecrow. The Songs were stamped by clear vocals, powerfull shouts and the playfully but hard drumplay of Wolfgang Scheidl. Guitars had their place in the background but jumped in front when Alex started a solo. The keyboards of Orestis were just there to put frame into the musical setting. The songs became more and more complicated, parts, which would be enough material for 2 or more songs were used. But these facts had no influence on the success of the band.
They played at festivals, just as Rock in Allhau and supported bands just as Manowar, Overkill, Nevermore, Labyrinth, Iron Saviour, Edguy a.m.m.
They also founded an underground festival, called live jam.

Chapter IV - First Time on CD

Another change in the line up took place and with Wolfgang Gröbin there came a man, who played the Scarebass for a long time. After the recording of the EP "Released" (1998) and the Longplayer "Return Of The Cold Times" (1999), some concerts like their gig in Hungary with Autumn Clan were played.
In early 2000, Hannes left the band and for a long time they could not find a qualified vocalist. The band took this time to work on some new songs and grew up.

Chapter V - Renewal

2000/2001 were important years for the band. It was great luck, that, on a concert, they met Bernd Krumböck. After short consideration, he became the new voice of Scarecrow. That was the beginning of another change in stile. First, using only clear vocals, Bernd started to try some other techniques. The song Cremator was the first one where he moved into the cold spheres of blackmetal. Alex, his guitars made their way to the front, and Bernd had a great influence on the developement of their music. The influence now came from power, death, black and gothic metal. For this reason, drummer Wolfgang left the band in winter 2001. This fact was the beginning of the most important change in the history of Scarecrow.
After they realiced, that there was no drummer availiable, they decided to use a sequencer. Some difficulties in programming could not stop them and so these unusual percussions became a kind of trade mark for the four. The music changed once more. Speed encreased, keyboards became more important, guitars more powefull and vocals more colourfull. Bombastic Dark Speedmetal, that is what the 4 called their sound and 2002 they released longplayer no. 2: Atmosfear, a preview of their changes. Songs became longer, darker and a red line lead through compositions. Powerfull guitars, blasting drums, atmospheric synthesicers and clean vocals, paired with the infernality of hell made their way.
More live concerts followed, Kaltenbach Open Air 2003 should be announced.

Chapter VI - The Change

Like the years bevor, 2003 ended with a new change in the line up. After long consideration, bassplayer Wolfgang left his place for Gylle. The carinthian blues rocker changed to the dark shores of Scaremetal. This was the moment, when calling for a new drummer became louder. But nobody heard the call. 2004 starded very successfull for the band. In jannuary, thy recorded their live album Live Explosion, one of the best pruductions in austrian underground. In april they played some shows in Graz, Vienna and Wolfsberg with Bands like Finntroll or Ensiferum. At one of these shows they met drummer Gerwin Berger who joined the band and now is appearing on their longplayer Northern Lights. It was august, when the band entered Börnsn Schatz's Shithouse Studios in Wolfsberg to record their new album. At the same time, the band made their first step across the sea to the United States. Their album was played on WNYU AM radio. Furthermore, they recorded a coverversion of Rage's Don't fear the Winter, but this recording never made it's way to your ears. In 2005 Alex Stiplosek returned as bassplayer and Stefan Kelz joined as drummer instead of Gerwin.
Many gigs were played, such as Metalcamp 05, many thoughts were thought and much has been said. New World Annihilation was recorded and released on Arising Realm Compilation no. 12 and many good reviews followed. No description for their music may be found, but one thing will be forever: SCARECROW

… so… that was a lie, but… beware of SCARECROW N.W.A.

Chapter VII - New World Annihilation

In 2006, they released their EP "At the Back of Beyond" which got many good reviews. 2007 Stipe left the band for spending more time with his family but the search for a new bassplayer didn't last very long. After a short time, Oliver Reimer - Ohlsen - joined the band. Now they are working on new material for their next longplayer…

Chapter VIII - The Open Sea

In 2008, Scarecrow NWA started the recording of their new Longplayer. It will be a concept-album, based on a famous novel. Gig highlights were playing with Within Temptation in january and supporting Týr, Hollenthon, Alestorm & Svartsot at their Ragnarök's Aaskereia Tour. In Oktober, keyboarder Orestis left the band…

Sophisticted Death Metal and misanthropic thoughts!
