Such a left turn from The Lamb naturally so for the absence of Gabriel but to me the thing that makes this stand up so well is the harkening the arrangements make to Trespass and Nursery Cryme, but with the added strength of the four remaining as a musical unit. This is one of Steve Hackett’s best albums in terms of the way his style flows through Tony’s writing and compliments the vocal style as nicely as it did for me with Peter particularly on Foxtrot onwards. But this was also pointing to the future in a sense by how less meandering some of the arrangements are and melody becomes more present. A great album.

their best album imo and the only one i really listen to anymore as i've never really made a "lasting connection" with them despite liking prog. i remember liking the self-titled and Selling England but not as much and I have some fond memories of WCD and CAS growing up in the 90s (I probably wouldn't enjoy those two anymore though). I always prefered this album over Selling England as it always felt more melodic in a traditionally heart-string-tugging way, I guess i just don't like their brand of 'progginess' and prefer when they do something more 'down to earth relatable' and this album strikes that balance between hitting the thinking and feeling parts of my brain the most. and let's be real, Peter is only truly good on his solo shit, anyway (the opposite of Phil, btw). Howeverrrrr I've heard that Robbery... was written to try to "fake" Peter's writing style and now I know why I always throw it out of the playlist, it's kinda crap and I'd rather actually have the real deal.

i think i actually like this more than a few of the Gabriel-era albums, though Selling England by the Pound remains their all-time peak as a band. honestly, there are days when i’d probably list this as a close third to Foxtrot. songs like Entangled, Mad Man Moon, and Ripples are so ethereal at times that i could just float away to them

can`t imagine the lead singer of any other band leaving to be replaced by the bands drummer and the quality being this high..even though Phil had taken lead vocals for a song on previous albums it was not with great results, even though his vocals were fine. i guess they just stopped giving him the weaker songs to sing and he stepped upto the plate.

"Genesis became way too pop with Phil!" Maybe so but have you heard A Trick of the Tail?

Great album, always overlooked by the "only the Peter Gabriel albums are good" crowd.

Haha, yes, after Duke, they were like that former superstar athlete who is still really good, no longer a star, but the veteran who puts up really solid numbers and continues to sneak into the All-Star game every year.

An incredible masterpiece. This was difficult to get into but the more I listen to it the more I think this is one of their best, most possibly top 4 or 3. Every track on here is amazing. The playing is fantastic and Collins' vocals are terrific, especially in tracks such as "Entangled" and "Ripples".

Excellent album. I love the guitar on "Squonk." It always gives me goosebumps.

Not the best, but it's close. I think all six albums from Trespass to this one are near-perfect masterpieces.

My second-favorite Genesis album after Foxtrot. People associate this album with Phil Collins, but if there were a single artist whose baby this album was (never the case with Genesis), that artist would be Tony Banks.

Would anyone be in favor of a petition to have "(LP Version)" removed from all titles in the Last.fm database? I grow weary of my music not scrobbling to the correct album, because some Bozo thought appending "(LP Version)" to every song title was somehow helpful and informative.

"i think the description is wrong. "And then there were three" was the first to feature phil collins on vocals fully, wasn't it? this was second?" 'And Then There Were Three' was actually the third, years after this one.
