It's way less catchy than Entertainment, but Solid Gold boasts their tighest grooves.

I'm pretty sure the artwork is meant to look like a compilation of "solid gold" super-commercial music like you'd see advertised on TV late at night back in the late 70s/early 80s. Meant to be ironic, of course, given the band's politics. Anyway, this is a fantastic album that was quite important among the Post-Punk (and Punk) groups of the time; in particular the Melvins have cited this as a favorite album and substantial inspiration/influence for them. Lots of interesting textures and sounds here, with a very rhythmic, groove-oriented, repetitive and droning quality. Hard to pick which one is better between this one and Entertainment!; they are both awesome.

I think this is on par with Entertainment! to be honest... maybe a little better, depending on my mood. [2]

Was this album re-recorded/re-mixed at some point? I've noticed that the guitars are WAY more up-front in the mix and aggressive on some tracks. Especially the track: "What We All Want".

I was really expecting a disappointing listen when I got this. NOT AT ALL. Sure it's not as groundbreaking/perfect as Entertainment! but it's an extremely solid follow up that I know will just keep growing on me with future listens.

Hugely underrated. A solid follow-up to Entertainment! It definitely shows the more disco feel that they would go for in their later albums, but keeps that post-punk edge of the debut. This will grow on you, believe me. The subject matter is still relevant in today's world. Brilliant.
