The Harlem Repertory Theatre presents an intimate chamber version of DREAMGIRLS with a cast of 10 in the heart of Harlem.
DREAMGIRLS is a musical based on the show business aspirations and successes of renowned R&B acts: The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown and others. The musical is a classic, "rags to riches" tale of three young African American female singers who begin as innocents and ultimately triumph over jealousies, deceptions and a ruthless music industry.
Two-time AUDELCO winner, Keith Lee Grant, will direct and choreograph
the production. Mr. Grant will shift the focus of this iconic musical from
flashy sets and costumes to the moment-to-moment emotional
development of the characters: from aspiring novices in the 1960s R&B
music industry to highly polished – albeit somewhat jaded – international
stars.
