The streak in the middle of Latin Roots into Steady Diet into Long Division is amazing.

This one seems to be largely forgotten or ignored, which is a shame because IMO it's among their best work. This is where it became abundantly clear that they weren't just a Hardcore/Punk band. Repeater and the early EPs are great, great recordings, but the difference between them and tons of other bands of the period was that they were better songs and had better playing; Steady Diet of Nothing shows that Fugazi is playing a completely different game than (very good) bands like Quicksand and the like.

Fugazi is one of the most difficult bands I'm familiar with to try and rate/rank against themselves. I stand by my assertion that Steady Diet of Nothing measures up favorably with their best work, but is it "better" than Repeater, Red Medicine, End Hits and The Argument? I don't think so. But then again, I don't know that most of those are "better" than Steady Diet of Nothing, either. They're just all fucking awesome. We didn't realize how good we had it getting a new Fugazi LP every 2-3 years when they were around, Now they've been gone about the same length of time as they were around and we're probably never going to get another record from them.

Also, I think I was a little bit dismissive of Repeater in my original comment, for some reason. As I've mentioned elsewhere on the site, Repeater more or less CREATED the sound that those other bands had in common with Fugazi. Repeater gave those other groups the sound that it did better than anyone else, so I can't (and don't, generally) hold it against Repeater that a bunch of other acts -- many of them perfectly enjoyable -- latched onto it after the fact, I only intended to say that Steady Diet of Nothing saw the band expanding and widening its scope and sources of inspiration to include a bit of Dub/Reggae (which would see greater use on Red Medicine and End Hits) and some more "Post-Punk" type elements. It was sort of a small step in that direction, though; they really got adventurous with their final three records.

All Fugazi's albums are genius and make me want to dance and sing but to me 'Steady Diet Of Nothing' is the one that's most 'whole', most 'complete' :-)

this one takes a while, probably their driest album in tone but it's one of the best ones in a spotless discography

Just kind of a slow burner. It is, as someone mentioned below, my least favorite. But "least favorite" Fugazi album is like saying "least favorite euphoric feeling."

this one really grew on me, just like all their albums have at some point. Viva Fugazi

It's usually everyone's least favorite Fugazi record, but that in no way means it's weak...I'd say it's way underrated and overlooked.
