MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS (マス オブ ザ ファーメンティング ドレッグス, Masu Obu Za Faamentingu Doreggusu) started out in 2002, original members being Natsuko Miyamot (Bass/Vocals), Chiemi Ishimoto (Guitar) and the drummer Reiko Gotoh, in Kobe, Japan. After Reiko left the band in October 2007 a supporting drummer by the name of Yoshino Tsutomu came aboard, and was made an official member in 2010.
Natsuko explained the origin of the unusual band name in an interview with music retailer HMV: “It doesn’t have any particular meaning, we just lined up a few words that we liked". They are also popularly known by a shortened form of their name, Masu Dore (マスドレ).
Though an all female act, its bright and loud guitar reminds of “Sugar”, “The Wedding Present” with its “The Smashing Pumpkins”-ish beautiful melody building an identical world in songs.
