Oh, and as for Sigh, they sound familiar. I'm sure either someone told me about them or I discovered them on my own with interest. What albums would you recommend me? I'm on...such a massive avant garde binge recently, be it rock, jazz, metal or fucked up shit like Mr Bungle and Scott Walker (btw how much do you like Tilt/The Drift? The only album this year I'm anticipating more than DS IV is the new Sonny Boy...)

Darkspace and Negura are 2 of my fave BM bands. I'm eagerly and impatiently anticipating Darkspace IV, and OM is one of the very best metal records I've ever heard. I'm downloading Solefald albums now so it's only a matter of days before I check them out and return with my impressions. My expectations are fairly high, since I love sax metal. Speaking of which, what do you think of Bohren? I always have to ask metalheads their opinion on them, my top 2 genres are jazz and metal, and Bohren seems like the ultimate darkjazz group for metalheads (not to mention the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble as well).

I am in love with all metal bands that tend to have a "structured form of chaos". Deathspell Omega does that very well on Paracletus and Fas. I also adore Arcturus and Blut. What albums do you recommend by Thy Catafalque?

I love fucked up experimental/avant music and just the way you briefly described them as me excited to listen to it very soon. Metal + sax is always awesome with me. Thanks!

Yeah...i know what you mean...I have almost all their albums except one, and wouldn't really call them Avante-Garde...I leave that to bands like Solefald/Sigh/kekal, with aspects of songs that come out of no where. Nocte Obductas only album that was remotely experimental to that degree was their last one...which is hardly even metal...still great music though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmZpRBoSSyw and then they split up....but the main guy formed his own band, Agrypnie...which is also pretty good... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5-_FqJ0AxI&feature=related

for me, i prefer Orchid. like you said, great atmosphere and that hint of BM which is always a plus for me. Morningrise is good too, but i listen to Orchid more for sure. I'm sure i've mentioned them, but do you like nocte Obducta? progressive BM band...love the build in this song from about 7:50 onwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLTh0iRJ2fc

you know, not too sure yet. I do like how it is different and has that pychadelic 70s sound...but it still hasn't grabbed me yet either. I will have to wait til i hear the entire album to really see how i feel. Right now, if i want to listen to stuff like that, i would prefer Nightingale

yeah, i think we get alot of pretty good bands here each year. Aside from the two i mentioned, i know Grave are coming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTad4_clj-I and later Mayhem (who i wouldn't say are a favourite, but would be cool to see live)

Hey Ana, yeah, i plan on going to it. And i think on the same week Alcest opening for Enslaved...so lucky me! I wonder if Akerfeldt will join Katatonia on stage and do some songs from Brave Murder Day??

yeah, they are one of my favourite bands....Dan Swano is probably my fav musician. He's been involed in so many great projects (just look at metal-archives). He plays all instruments and does it well and also plays a diverse style of music i.e., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLFzyqRXhx8 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltW7thLAioQ , and this was a power metal project him and Akerfeldt did for fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_5H7HkyZ4w

Looks like you listen to alot of Opeth. Do you also like Edge of Sanity? If there was one band that was similar, I would say EOS, especially the album Crimson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRfXfB28c94 their other stuff is good too, and i think, but could be wrong was the first band to have death growls and clean vocals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kLbMALuFak and my fav song by EOS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epGvsd9SrBg

yeah, they have really nice melodies in their songs (sad Legend), they do have faster songs on their album as well...as for funeral doom, it isn't something i listen to all the time, however, i do like Evoken and Ahab. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eEPxYFYD4o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHVkJgwAXgE

they are a good band! they have changed alot throughout the years so make sure to check it all out. Garm was with them the first 3 albums then Vortex took over. first album was BM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY1LqbaUSnE&feature=fvsr..then after than they experimented alot...especially on La Masquerade Infernale (which vortex also had a couple guest appearances) i.e., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTQmWHGNGZM anyways, if you have any other questions about them, let me know :)

yeah, i guess not split up per say...but not really the same band i think without loomis. I like Nevermore but dont listen to them a whole lot. I think i saw them on tour after the released godless endeavour. really enjoyed the live show. yeah, i prefer other Falkenbach albums but new one was still enjoyable to listen to

i was surprised first time i used it as i thought the quality would be bad too, but they seem to turn out pretty good. There is one coming up with Woods of Ypres and another with Obscura and Devin Townsend..so will probably go to those

They were both great!! I saw Opeth twice. The second time they played more mellow songs because Akerfeldt's throat was not his best so basically told the crowd that this was one of the last stops on the tour and his voice was obviously affected so he played more acoustic and stuff. So I think that was awesome because I saw both sides of them. Moonsorrow was great too I saw them at Pagenfest 2 and that was one of my favorite shows.

I've been to so many concerts but not enough! I don't even know who my absolute favorite live band was. My favorites though are Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, OPETH, and Ensiferum I have no idea.. http://www.last.fm/user/SoleMann/library/tags?tag=seen+live those are all the bands I've seen live that have Last.FM if you are interested. I hate most of the bands though.

It might be 21+ though so that would be unfortunate. All of the good Black Metal bands play at clubs and smaller venues when they come to Chicago. I am looking forward to potential shows in the near future. I saw Lacuna Coil live once too they were good at the time because that is when I was really into them. What was the best band that you saw live?

Ever Listen to Root? one of the most unique bands i've seen..started as more traditional BM but have evolved alot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol9vvZWqvkY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv8iK-u3bis&feature=related

true, in general, i prefer when they are seperate, or subtle...when its more industrial than metal, i prefer to listen to something that is just industrial. What kinda stuff have you been listening to lately? do you mix it up or tend to listen to one thing?
