i wish i could go back to 2017 just to relive the rollout of this project. still unparalleled in all of kpop. less ambitious as exo's predebut rollout had been, but far more streamlined in its storytelling approach, and as a result, far more successful. i still can't listen to any of the solo tracks without having the visual in my mind immediately, that's how effective it was (and that's a good thing!). that was back in the day when the hyyh storyline was really one of the most major quirks of the group - you either didn't get it or you were invested in it, there really was no inbetween, and back then it segued perfectly with the numerous demian references. dare i say it was the closest kpop ever came to a true visual album. i hope bts goes back to that sort of thing someday, because no doubt they could pull it off perfectly.
