Listening to this album for the first time in years. It's better than I remember, but sadly I think it's my least favourite regardless. One of 'em has to be in last place, right? I think maybe its always been a victim of expectation. It's not what a fan expects from them, which isn't good or bad. But even as a departure from the style(s) they're known for, it's not an amazingly engaging departure. That's just me though. It's by no means a band album, it just doesn't draw my attention like all the others do. Solitude Sometimes Is & The Love of Richard Nixon are among my favourites from any album.

I really like this album, particularly 1985 and Always/Never, but since its the Manics, it does feel like its missing a guitar heavy track (nobody loved you, condemned to rock n roll, etc) at the back of the album.

Massively underrated album. One of their best, though perhaps not quite on the level of THB/EMG/GT/JFPL. Miles better than all the other ones though, I'd say. It's a shame it was released at a time when people who getting sick of the Manics.

It's more incredibly unpopular, rather than "underrated"; however, I must say that I've always been quite a fan of it: 1985, Cardiff Afterlife, To Repel Ghosts and Empty Souls are all superb.

Lifeblood is similar to Know Your Enemy in that it oozes a sombre, rueful and at times somnolent sort of atmosphere. Both albums also contain a set of songs that are primarily similar to one another. The difference is that Lifeblood has direction musically and no real question marks, i.e. Miss Europa Disco Dancer. Their second best '00s effort after JFPL in my opinion.

i'm sorry, so sorry. i gave this one a chance many many times but it is by far the worst. thank god they didn't progress in the direction this was going.

I listened yesterday for the first time and I found this one KIND OF boring. They are not so inspired.

This is my favourite by them, I can't understand why people would think it's their worst. It hang so well together as a whole, which many of their albums don't. It is a little different, but to me that's what's so great about it. this album deserves more love :)

I really do love this album, and I think it's a shame that especially Nicky talks about how much he dislikes this album all the time. Also I really wish that they would play some songs of Lifeblood live.

Over the years I've come to realise that this is one of MSP's best albums. It's so underrated and even the band write it off these days, I can't help feel that it's woefully misunderstood.

I can understand why most people hate this album & perhaps as with 'this is my truth' I should hate it too but I like the alternate direction they took on this album. Sort of New Order-ish. I like it!

good to read here that this album does have some fans after all. i never really understood either why it got such bad reviews - i immediately loved it when it was realeased and still do.

Probably the biggest moment in the band's career where they've gone 'fuck it' and done what they wanted. I'm glad because this is my second favourite Manics album. Shiny production that you could eat your dinner off, wonderful lyrics that contain a fair amount of soulsearching, glossy synths that never need a new lick of paint, improved bass from Wire, gorgeous vocals from James, propulsive drumming from Sean and one of the band's best politically minded tracks in "The Love of Richard Nixon". A treasure trove of b-sides too despite the lacking lyrics in a number of them.

I am very nostalgic towards this, as it was the first Manics album that I bought on the day that it came out at the tender age of 14. It may be their weakest, but I still feel a connection with a lot of the songs.

Definitely in my top three Manics records. Will never understand how people could go out in their droves to but Coldplay but totally ignored this beautiful record. Their loss.

Their best album for me. The first 6 songs are just incredible! Always/Never is good too.
