Hmm interesting, I might have to give it another listen. I haven't been in much of a rock type of mood lately though so that might partially explain it. Favorite albums from the year so far? And I don't think I ever saw a list from you for 2012 releases :O

I was kind of pretty disappointed to be honest. I don't really care what type of music they make but I just felt like the new album lacked in the songwriting department and a lot of the "hooks" and melodies were just not too memorable. Though those are just initial opinions. How about you?

Have you ever listened to sparklehorse? On his early records there's some of my favourite songwriting of all time.

Thanks for listening to Ummagma. You may want to listen to more considering that you enjoy Cocteau Twins, the xx & Brian Eno. Now you can download our 2 debut albums for free. If I'm able to find something by them to listen to I will make sure to, well, listen to it. Cheers for the recommendation, Mr. dottmargers!

Glad to hear you liked it! :) I thought it was quite a refreshing album to hear... not much stuff sounding like that in 2012 from what I can tell.

it's interesting the resemblance between our avatars, number of plays and date when we joined lastfm

Yea, I love Annie and David as well. I'll probably revisit it soon and see if my opinions change. Did you check out the Diamond Terrifier album? The title track is especially incredible. http://northernspyrecords.bandcamp.com/album/kill-the-self-that-wants-to-kill-yourself

Yea, it didn't do too much for me unfortunately. Some tracks were great (Who, Lazarus, and Optimist iirc) but I wasn't left with much after I finished listening. I prefer St. Vincent's last album and Everything That Happens for sure. I think that it just felt a bit too safe and same-sounding (a lame complaint, I know) and neither of their vocals really did a lot for me (and both usually do on their respective albums).

Just contributing to your August shouts quota, since June and July seem to have been rather disappointing months on that matter.

I haven't yet but I will soon, thanks for the rec. I've been let down by Stones Throw more than any other hip-hop label so that's probably why I didn't listen to it yet. There's too many good records coming out and I just don't have the time to listen to it all ahh.

Hiphop 2012, ehmm, there's a OFWG tape out, as well as another Weeknd mixtape and a Big K.R.I.T album. And one I look forward to listening is Death grips - the money store. But to be honest I haven't had much time to listen to 2012 releases. The roadburn festival had my full attention.

I have been suspicious of Gang of Four lately. Their new rhythm section belongs in some kind of sting project, maybe? I had kind of a weird, mixed feeling when I went to their show. Also, sometimes, I think I am some kind of asshole who only likes the first (or first and second) record anybody ever makes :((

Oh, it's this thing on the Internet Archive website that has been constantly spidering the web (much like a search engine) for at least a decade. You can give a URL and that look at old versions of websites for any date that it's been cached. http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
