It started so nice, then second single, downgrade, then the album totally flat. It's just forgettable. I think this symphonic metal bands should do a recycling process, it's everything so dated these times...

for anyone still questioning Diana you should look Diana's audition video posted by Delain in their youtube channel. you will not be disappointed

I am absolutely in love with the new album and Diana Leah vocals. it didn't lose a bit of power yet got so much freshness. not that I disliked Charlotte but this is such an unexpectedly good replacement akin to Floor with Nightwish

A a few more listens in, I'd say I'm enjoying Dark Waters more. It has many good songs and overall I might prefer it to Moonbathers. Objectively it's formulaic to a fault, but subjectively I just love the formula so it works for me. Meaning, it's still Baby's First Delain, but I like Delain so I kind of automatically dig the album. The only thing that irks me is that I still can't tell Diana from Charlotte: that does work in maintaining the familiar sound, but I think Martijn is deliberately sending the message that people (read: Charlotte) are 100% replaceable, and I don't know how much I like that on a human level. Also, I find it hilarious that Tainted Harts is an unsubtle, transparent jab at the past members and it also happens to be the weakest track on the record: if you want to be petty, do it right at least.

Imo Charlotte was just slightly better singer but the songs on new album are great. Maybe more variety on the next album but it's a solid four stars out of five and holds it's own easily amongst other Delain records.

So, first spin of the new album. If I weren't up to date with the drama, I wouldn't even notice the change in vocalist. It's mind-blowing, because on her own tracks Diana doesn't sound like Charlotte at all, so it's a deliberate choice on, I assume, Martijn's part. Which okay, nobody wants another Mariangela situation, but I think we can find a good middle gorund between Tristania and... whatever this is. The album itself is on the "Baby's First Delain" side of okay, meaning it's not actively bad or offensive in its existence, but Martijn couldn't have played it any safer and stereotypical if he'd tried. Time will tell if it's just a transitional album to ease us into this new era, or if all these "MaStErMiNdS" who can't take external input are just destined to end up a self-parody like a certain Finn I can think of.

Diana Leah voice reminds me a lot to Charlotte but also to Anette Olzon, and it's a beautiful mix. I'm addicted to The Quest and The Curse. Underland, Hideaway Paradise and Invictus and epic <3

I find it funny how some people say Diana sounds very little like Charlotte and others say she's almost identical. I'm in the "similar" camp. And it's probably a good thing for continuity to avoid a Tarja/Annette situation where the replacement, while a good singer in her own right, sounds terrible on some signature songs and can't sing others. The album has more texture but doesn't feel as dynamic as I was hoping for based on the singles. Still really enjoyed it however.

I was so sad when the band changed almost all the members... Charlotte is not my favorite singer but I think she's very special and for me Delain was she. But the new album it's not bad and it sounds so, so Delain, even the voice. And I like the new voice like a sweet version of Charlotte. My faves are Invictus and The Quest and The Curse, both are epic!

The new album is good but I feel like they played it a bit safe. Still good though.

Compared to their previous album I think that Dark Waters is a downgrade, BUT I think that it is still a good, well done album. Maybe after a couple of spins it will grow on me, but for now it's just... Good.

Dark Waters is beautiful. I don't think the musical part changed and Martjin still delivers amazing melodies and lyrics. I don't agree the songs are dull too, they have a lot of energy. I am glad Delain still goes forth and creates. The new vocalist is definitely not Charlotte but I don't find it a flaw. Great voice, very clear and more delicate.

I never was too attached to Charlotte’s vocals that sometimes were a bit too nasally so I wasn’t too sad when she left. I really enjoyed Dark Waters. It’s full of energy, bombast and just felt more cohesive than previous albums. Invictus, The Cold and Underland are absolute bangers and the rest of the album is quite strong too and I don’t say that often about Delain albums. My new favourite Delain album. There will be plenty of people who won’t like this album because of what happened, but I’m really pleased with Martjin’s work here. Lyrically I enjoyed it more than previous Delain albums too. Super pleased right now!

Probably Moth to a Flame, cause is something a little different from their signature sound that I feel they should distance their music from just for a bit.

Moth to a Flame is a good one, but I feel it very different from the other two, it kind reminds me the song The Gathering in composition or even Nightwish’s Wish I Had an Angel. Delain also is known for some up beat songs as Stardust and Fire with Fire, so this might be a normal pattern in their sound as the album unfolds

Finalmente um single que não tente emular um período que já passou. Não que eu não tenha gostado dos anteriores, mas...

The new singles are pretty good. Diana really does sound a lot like Charlotte (on these songs at least). Cautiously optimistic about the new album atm.

Gonna miss Charlotte so much but so far Diana sounds nice too. Delain isn't Delain without Charlotte, it feels so bizzare but I'm willing to give it a chance. Tbh I'm easy to please music wise.

So, basically, and please correct me if I got something horribly wrong, Martijn got rid of Charlotte and the boys because he didn't want Delain to be a touring band anymore just to invite new members (with Diana even clearly copying her predecessor) and go on tour again. What the hell?

Diana sounds so close to Charlotte when she was Delain. Not sure if it's deliberate to ease the transition or what but the singing style is very similar to Charlotte's Delain work. Not a bad thing, if anything it did probably make me more receptive to her vocals cause it didn't sound completely different. I'm wondering if she was told to deliberately emulate Charlotte's singing style/sound and then they will slowly ease her own sound into it. She sounds fanatic here, but it's undoubtedly very much like Charlotte.

my take is that this track is a business decision - it's meant to showcase all of the band's capabilities, particularly regarding the vocals (all of them, not just Diana's), in a relatively accessible style/format known to the fans in order to ease them into this new iteration of the band.

After some listens I must Admit The Quest and the Curse is the best Song Delain has ever Wrote. the only missing in the song is the choir. The song is so fit for heavy choir all over.

They obviously meant Charlotte with Delain. Diana sounds just like her. Casual listeners who don't follow band news will not know the singer changed.

that is not the point at all. checked her previous covers of Within Temptation and her voice was different, you can feel its her own in these covers. in this new delain song her voice is so strangely similar to Charlotte. it seems it is being done in purpose or something.

So Martijn replaced Charlotte vocales with Charlotte incarnated vocales? is it a way to troll her or what exactly. I don't find it worth the wait to have a new singer with same exact singing style so what is the point of any change.

So, ok, Martijn decided not to go on with the "back to a studio project" format and go on with Delain as a band. He already chosen a new vocalist (is a woman) and they're recording the next album. Later this year they'll reveal her name when a single is ready to be released. He also has a (touring) band: Rob van der Loo, Ronald Landa and Sander Zoer are back. I'll forever miss the Martijn+Charlotte collaboration, but since Delain still exists as a band and not some project with guest vocalists I'll keep coming back to check what comes next.

Sad to see them break up. Charlotte has a lovely solo project though. Delain was always awesome to see in concert.
