STYX was the first rock band to release four consecutive albums that went multi-platinum beginning with The Grand Illusion followed by Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theatre. It was the power ballad, “Lady,” from the album Styx II that was their breakout hit and got the ball rolling. On the heels of the hit single “Lady,” Styx released Equinox in 1975, selling well and yielding the rock anthem “Suite Madame Blue,” which gained the band considerable recognition and airplay. When Tommy Shaw signed on, it proved to be the missing piece in the puzzle and the rest was history, spawning such classic rock radio standards as “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Fooling Yourself,” and “Mr. Roboto.”
