Hi James. After logging into my last.fm page after ~2 years and music stalking all my friends, I just thought I'd let you know that my friend saw your library and thought it was amazing.

oh hell yes you would like them. the guy who played the horns for NMH is their lead singer. they only did two albums- are you sleepy and the battle of electricity. are you sleepy is their better work, imho. they have a nice, fuzzy sound to them paired with high, sort of nasally vocals. it's your typical 90's fuzz pop, but it's just so damn simple that it works. anything you would recommend?

Hmn, I'm not sure : P That would be legendary. Definitely start with "Now, More than Ever," specifically the songs So Small, Broken Chair, Time is a Force or Now, More than Ever. With that album, he did without the Playstation sample beats and somber vocals to make a folky, incredibly catchy album. I loved it for months, and overplayed the hell out of it : P If you want I can send you the entire album if you like the samples on his Last.fm page.

Our taste-o-meter is pretty high. I think we can benefit from knowing each other : P

Ha I can see your bias against jazz from your schooldays, I've always been against masturbatory music myself and like yourself I don't listen to much metal, maybe a dozen artists...I got into jazz cause my father played a lot of Miles and Coltrane while I was growing up. Definitely check out "A Love Supreme" by Coltrane or almost anything by Charles Mingus too. So you type shit into a database all day? I'm a computer science guy myself and know how boring that is :-( Keep up playing the good tunes!!

Thanks, you've been on my neighbors for quite some time and we have a ton of artists in common, great minds think alike and whatnot. Oh and about Miles....hmmm he changed Jazz so many times....I'd still start w/ Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, Live-Evil, and Round about Midnight...those are my favorites!

I love all of them, but I agree with you...my favorite is definitely Gulag Orkestar. From beginning to end, it's amazing. And that album has one of my favorite opening tracks ever.
