I don't think I've ever heard samples be used so effectively in black metal before. This is honestly really impressive and I'm looking forward to listening to their entire discography.

After some careful consideration, I have deleted all their music from my metal folder, it's for the best.

Ok... why do you feel the need to inform the rest of the world? Feeling lonely?

So people don't make the same mistake I did, just don't listen to this trash.

Imagine Inquistion, Belphegor and Dark Funeral had a threesome and had a fat ugly baby. That's what Funeral Mist sound like, and not in a good way.

What a delusional statement. "Salvation", for example, is more like if "Those of the Unlight", early Dark Funeral and "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" were blended together, infected with all medieval (both physical and mental) diseases imaginable and shaped into the one of the most multidimensional, interesting and oppressive-sounding post-nineties black metal records. Grotesque indeed, but not "fat and ugly" at all. But anyway, don't torture yourself with something you'll never understand and better go back to Moonblood, Graveland, Deathhammer and whatever garbage you seem to enjoy.

Deiform is probably my favorite album by this guy for 3 simple reasons: Twilight of the Flesh, Children of the Urn, Into Ashes. Still, not a weak moment in his entire discography. Wait, I am b*llshiting you; White Stone from Maranatha remains unbearable.

didn't expect myself to like deiform as much as i am growing into it, it's some really intense shit to the point that it cleanses your mind in the most violent manner...

Tbh, I got bored yesterday too in my initial listen. Later on, the second spin, it flowed better. I still don't want to say good or bad album yet though.

"Deiform" is some tight shit. Way better than "Hekatomb", which was pretty good.

I love how he gave 1 week notice for the album release even though it's been 3 years since Hekatomb, whereas other bands announce albums months and months in advance. What a legend.

Its cool, but vinyl was sold out before I even notice. Sometimes I would aprreciate regular promotion.

narrowmindedly comparing every new piece of art with the older ones or your favorites is a mistake, specifically if you approach the new ones with that comparison in mind to start with, what it seems like was your MO. try to see every release as a unique, alone standing work of an artist. another chapter of his soul so to speak. of course its legitimate to say that you like x album more than y, but it doesnt sound like you and other people for that matter listen without certain expectations and smash it if it doesnt sound exactly like it.

of course he can expect that, be he shouldn't alter his creative output and what he wants to articulate in a particular manner. he also can and should expect the people to wait for another unique, original sound an approach, because thats the intriguing part why you liked the debutalbum in the first place, and not to just want a generic copy of the same old stuff all over again.

i guess it depends on the motivation and reason behind your art. when i want to transform my innermost feelings and philosophy and state of mind or whatever into art I couldn't care less a) regarding on a debut album what is the style that would attract the most fans and b) following up, what the audience expects, or more demands, from me as an artist, as, like i said, they propably liked my honest and from-the-heart-approach in the first place. i mean for me its obvious that arioch is that kind of artist (musically of course salvation was deeply inspired by the surrounding bands, but it still had a unique twist in terms of concepts and atmosphere), so i would be disappointed, if he'd just make the same album over and over. whatever, we're going in circles, but i understand your POV.

i dont know, i hear and feel all of that on the record, but maybe in a more subtle manner than the "inyourface" style of "salvation". lée entre las linias, compadre. pero cada weon tiene su propio gusto.

I appreciate Arioch trying out different things vocally, but the end result is... a little weak? Paired with the cleaner production, the album lacks the visceral and gritty sound of Salvation and Maranatha which set them apart from the rest of the orthodox projects out there. Still good though

It grew on me since then. I still haven't found moments as strong as certain ones from his previous records (like THAT part from Anathema Maranatha), but I'm really enjoying each and every listen. The preaching girl in Palor Mortis is up there though

That main riff in In Nomine Domini is the best thing ever. The album is great; though the production is too clean.

New album is much better than Marduk's Viktoria, actually it may be the best album Funeral Mist ever released also the black metal album of the year ,I was thinking black metal is repeating itself and come to an end until listening Hekatomb, not experimental but very powerfull and original release, sounding like way too much to frontschwein at some point but still loved it

Wouldn't call it "black metal album of the year", since there was already Shining, Varathron and Human Serpent released (and Acherontas/Urfaust/Abigor waits for giving them a fair spin), but... I agree with best band's effort, this is the first album from Funeral Mist I appreciated. Finally!

update : after listening funeral mist's latest album and the rest of their discography a couple of times , I figured out this band is waste of time, not even mentioning the best of part, it was one of my excitement bursts for some music of which i later regret , dismiss

I'm thinking Hekatomb, like Maranatha, is going to be a grower. It doesn't blow my dick off after the first couple listens but it's cool.

Yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying. The whole Cockatrice into Metamorphosis snoozefest really kills my desire to listen to the rest of the album. Such a bizarre choice to have that long ass empty passage that doesn't really even build to anything.

Of course he's getting older. There are 9 years between Maranatha and Hekatomb. But listen to Shedding Skin. I love the natural sound of his voice.
