Congratulations on achieving almost your "5.2k artists played" milestone ! ... I saw us both in the "Discovery Leaderboard" section (Oct. 2-8), you are at #5 place there: last DOT fm/user/TheAlexH/listening-report/week ... How is life on your spot of the globe these days? I assume you stay indoors more recently in these Corona virus times, as we also here in the German side of the EU ... Take care of yourself, and proceed playing songs in a relaxed way on this wonderful Friday, Alexander

Did you get to see Kristin after the missed gig in 2016? I only just found out she has all these upcoming gigs this month, not sure if I'll get to go but hope so.

Yeah—unfortunate timing. Hope I’ll be able to see her live at some point. I was thinking about it just now and realised that last gig of hers I went to was a solo TM concert at Rough Trade East in 2013. Which is ages ago, obviously.

I missed her this time, bah. But she just seems even busier each year, so hopefully next time isn't far away.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. I do enjoy the odd kiwi classic whenever I can fit 'em in. I wish that was more often. Liking what I see on your charts too! I used to trawl through last.fm just sampling any music I liked the look of on profiles like yours. Too busy these days :(

Do you have a kiwi favourite? I'd probably have to go with The Phoenix Foundation or Goldenhorse. I love Minuit too. We are spoiled for choice!

I'll say. Though to be fair, the District Line doesn't go much faster than that most days.

I had no idea what hauntological means, and had a fun hour of falling down the google rabbit hole finding out, and yes, that seems to definitely apply. I really like Y Dydd Olaf too at least as much. And as far as album concepts go, "Y Dydd Olaf takes its name from Welsh writer Owain Owain’s 1976 sci-fi novel about globalisation, in which brain-invading robots overpower humanity – save for Welsh speakers, whose thoughts they can’t penetrate. Its nine songs confront media manipulation, patriarchy and the decline of minority languages" what a concept, right?! Both albums do conjure all kinds of feelings and moods and eras. She's very interesting to read about, and it's kind of been like learning a new word and suddenly seeing it absolutely everywhere -- she keeps popping up for me all over the place. In my local record shop in Cardiff I noticed she was their artist/album of the month, and she has a special place there/here because of the whole Welsh artist/Welsh language thing.

... And there's a decent chance I'll get to see her live here at some point (seems almost inevitable, really). Have you checked out Cate Le Bon? They're only linked in my mind because they're both new Welsh artists who are very good, but you might like her too. A lot of pleasing absurdity and a very individual voice. Sorry for hijacking your shoutbox, btw.

Thank you, I definitely will! I'm somewhat familiar with The Pipettes, but not with her solo work. I'm particularly interested in your recommendations because our compatibility isn't super high, but the things we have in common are unusual things that I really love. I'm not sure if anything here indicates that I live in Wales, but I do, so my curiosity is also piqued by the Welsh aspect. :)

Haven't really had the headspace for it lately, and I didn't want to go back to it until I had the time to really concentrate on it. But I listened to it yesterday and let it all wash over me. It's like that hour or so where a hangover or a migraine subsides and you see the world again and take pleasure in its small mercies ... or at least, that's how I responded to it on the last listen through.

What a great articulation, echoes a lot of my feelings about it too. Sometimes I go a while without any Kristin but man, when I'm in the right mood she hits me so hard. Moreso than just about anything else really and that's no small feat. She is just so good.

Thanks! " Sky Motel" is a favorite of mine too--- I love " Hips and Makers" of course, but I save it for an " emotional disturbed " mood. Like when the world around me seems to be in disarray. Somehow her lyrics make me feel better and carry me to sanity again, lol.

I'm always happy to turn people on to the Dentists. I just checked out Mazes since you seem to have listened to a lot of them lately and I like what I hear.

Hey... thanks for the link... cool pics :) Won't be going to Laneway tonight, unfortunately... I didn't book tickets in advance, and had sold out last night when I checked... and besides, the tickets are actually quite pricey, so will leave the scalper tickets for the devotees :)

I actually just finished my MA in English this past December. I'm currently on the job hunt, which is pretty miserable. I haven't had much luck yet. I do most of my work in literature and film in relation to women's studies. I mostly focus on literature by women and films directed by women. I will occasionally look at how women's novels are adapted by female directors. I presented a paper at a conference about an adaptation of Austen's Mansfield Park directed by a female filmmaker from Canada. It was really interesting. I also love female poets like Dickinson, Plath, and Sexton, but I didn't get the chance to study them much in my track, which was more focused on feminist film theory and literature to film adaptations. I did do an interesting bibliography project on Dickinson though.
