Biografie
Well, what do you want to know about Trance master producer / deejay Svenson? His real name is Sven Maes and he started playing drums when he was 12 years old at his hometown St-Niklaas in Belgium. Back then he already was a huge fan of Depeche Mode. Let’s call this his first true love. A bit later he got his first drumcomputer and synthesizer. He was ready to make songs and dreamt of his own complete state-of-the-art studio, but hey, you’ve got to start from scratch. He found all those knobs really fascinating and soon he made his first tracks.
It wasn’t till his 18th birthday that he played in a band called “Mea Culpa”. This band was a strange combination of musicians with all their very different influences. One of their major achievements was reaching the semi finals of Humo’s Rock Rall in Belgium. That’s how Sven got discovered by Geert Blanchart (former Belgian Champion Shorttrack). He heard them playing live and afterwards he introduced Sven to a good friend of his, Oliver Adams (Lords Of Acid, Praga Khan). He gave him the opportunity to work with him in his studio, where Sven taught a lot of the technical things of producing records. At this studio Sven made tracks for L.A. Style, Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo and many others.
Later, Oliver introduced Svenson to Roland Beelen from the record company Antler Subway, which resulted in Sven’s first fixed contract. Then he met DJ Johan Gielen. Their first production together “Bodyheat - Gonna make you feel” was a club hit in the Netherlands. As seemed later, a successful partnership was born. Under the name “Airscape” they made classics like “Pacific Melody” and “l-Esperanza”. The first release under the name “Svenson” was “Let me take you on a trip”. Later that year he produced some tracks for Milk Inc., who scored a couple of big hits in France.
More and more Svenson focused on the English market. He got to do remixes for Boy George, Chicane, Praga Khan, Dario G, Vanessa Mae, Safri Duo, Tiesto, etc. His biggest remix-hit up till now is without doubt “Delerium Feat. Sarah McLachlan’s Silence”. Svenson also made a couple of tracks for the hit project Alice DJ. After his contract with Antler Subway he decided to go on as a freelance producer, and got in contact with Dick de Groot from ID&T. The first co-operation was a huge success: “Svenson & Gielen - The Beauty of Silence”. “Twisted” became their biggest hit. They both received a Golden record for that.
After years of co-operation with Johan Gielen, they decided that it was time for them both to go solo. Svenson’s first solo release with ID&T was “Sunlight Theory”. It became the Theme from Trance Energy 2004 and it was a big top 20 hit in Holland. His latest track “Inside Outside’ can be heard in the clubs right now! Besides producing, Svenson is focusing on gigging around the world the next couple of years.
