Esperanza Fernández Vargas Birth: 1966 Sevilla
Esperanza Fernández's artistry is drawn from Lebrija and Triana. She is the daughter of the cantaor Curro Fernández and the sister of Paco Fernández (guitarist) and of Joselito Fernández (bailaor). In spite of her youth, her artistic career is surpring for its richness, versatility, and for how prolific she has been. She has already worked with figures like Camarón de la Isla, Mario Maya, Paco de Lucía, Rafael Riqueni and Enrique Morente. Places that are as different as Brasilia, Brussels, Cologne, Connecticut, Lisbon, Marrakech, New York, Paris, Rome, Tampere and Thessaloniki (among many others) have been able to enjoy her singing and dancing.
One of her qualities is her voice, which is able to express a great range of nuances, her sense of meter and her knowledge of orthodox flamenco. She is also bold enogh to get involved in innovative initiatives, as can be seen from her participation in the recovery of the opera "Margot" by Joaquín Turina (1999).
Her artistic trajectory is particularly linked to El Amor Brujo by Falla, of which she has recorded various versions, and which she has performed with different orchestras and artists. Her artistry was apparent when she represented Spain in Pop Komm '97 (in Cologne), and in the Voices for peace concerts, to which she was invited by the maestro Yehudi Menuhin, where she shared the stage with international artists such as Noa or Myriam Makeba.
