it'd be awesome if the mainstream percentage was calculated based on the amount of listeners from spotify instead of last.fm, it would be way more accurate, because under this method there are some inconsistencies as identifying some artists as underground when they're clearly not. Great concept tho

thanks for providing the exporter tool! I really hope that exporting events will be possible again in the future!

Hey, thanks for the tool! Do you think it'd be possible to specify a timeframe for exports rather than your entire history?

And nvm I just saw the small print lol. Will leave the comment in case someone comes here for the same reason though.

For anyone who doesn't know the Unix timestamp is the digits at the end of the file name. If you know the time you'd like to scribble since then you can use this site: https://www.unixtimestamp.com to convert the time to a Unix timestamp. This only allows you to specify a starting time, not an ending time. So if it's been a while since the time you specify you'll still have to download everything up to the present, but if you're like me and just wanted your history from a few hours ago then it's easy enough to find out and minimize the download time.

Hey, the tool says that it compares to the #1 artist in the UK, Coldplay, but that was like 10 years ago. Will this get updated?

Haha sorry yeah, unfortunately, it still is here on last.fm, only looking at total number of listeners, the tool checks for that still. But even Kanye or Drake or Taylor Swift are not that widely listened to here apparently. And you're right, it is a poor touch stone, but it's the only hard one available. Also, not many new last.fm users with more modern tastes join in any more i think.

I just discovered the mainstream meter, and while I do like it (especially the graph), do you think you could provide an alternate to the linear calculation? eg 100% = 10.0, 50% = 9.0, 25% = 8.0, etc. I think that would really spread the data out more and further highlight how obscure some of my taste are. Thanks!

Happy 12th scrobbling anniversary today! ... How fast time flew by playing your >7800 bands ... May you be blessed with many such musical anniversaries, and even more fascinating music experiences in the years to come. Have a great Sunday :-)

The export utility you wrote is amazing! Thank you so much. I'm starting to learn how to access API's and extract all that data myself. Free Last fm won't show me my historical data, but I'm guessing that data is included in the export from your tool. Is that correct?

sorry to bother you again but new export seems to be broken here using Firefox, it always stops at 100% (last page): https://imgur.com/PKXLUkE

Seems 1 of the pages keeps returning 500 error, even multiple retries fail, in the end, the download is not available at all, I guess due to the missing page

any chance to download incomplete file if a page keeps failing after certain number of retries? (5?)

Since the last.fm userbase represents mainly users with very refinded taste (yes, we are the Elite, guys, be proud of yourselves) it would make a lot of sense to use Spotify's Monthly Listeners Data to define 'Mainstream'. For example: Foo Fighters (74%) is more mainstream than Taylor Swift (42%) on your tool, because the last.fm userbase says so (2.3M listeners for Taylor Swift, while Foo Fighters have 4.1M). If you compare those two artists' popularity on Spotify you'll see a drastic difference, Foo Fighters have around 10M monthly listeners, while Taylor Swift has over 35M. Just food for thought, do you agree? Really like https://mainstream.ghan.nl/.

Can confirm, doesn't work on Chrome (stuck around 1355), Firefox was fine. The file is 50+ MB, I think might be related to: https://codereview.chromium.org/18541

Hi ghan64...many thanks for your efforts in the export tool! I have used it many times, it works great when setting a unix timestamp to get my scrobbles. But when I try to retrieve *all* my data(no timestamp used) it stops in 98-99% both with the old and the new version of the tool.
