New rave is a revival and reinvention of Alternative Dance that was popular primarily in the UK in the mid-2000s. The genre frequently combines uptempo Dance-Punk stylings with the polished Indie Rock of the Post-Punk Revival, and elements of Electronic Dance Music styles like Electroclash and Electro House, particularly influenced by the American band LCD Soundsystem and artists associated with the 2000s "blog house" scene like Justice. The result was a high energy and danceable style, well-suited to a revival of the late 1980s indie side to "rave" culture that hearkened back to the psychedelic neon aesthetics of the Baggy scenes. New rave also drew parallels to the stylistic potpourri of Grebo, frequently featuring a similar Punk Rock-oriented aggression and occasional usage of shouted or rapped vocals.
The term "new rave" (originally spelt "neu-rave") was coined as a play on New Wave by Angular Recording Corporation co-founder Joe Daniel to promote the first Klaxons show, though the band would later disavow the term. The term entered wide use through music magazine NME, describing other contemporary groups like New York Pony Club, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, and Shitdisco. Hadouken! would be another major player in the new rave scene, with a unique blend of indie music and Grime that was termed "grindie."
