If you like piano pop/rock with female vocals, like Fiona Apple or Tori Amos, check my new song. https://open.spotify.com/intl-es/track/2g54MWJWRKmfKB6o8oJJHI?si=effd059f32de4f91

it annoys me that when i search for the genre of some song the first tags i see are this or country/language tags. if female vocalist is a musical genre for these people, we should fill the rest of the songs with the male vocalist tag.

I understand that some people frustrates about this tag because its not a genre but let's think about that most artist/musicians are men generally and men tend to over shadow women in music, not because of quality but the quantity of musicians/artists are men. To me this tag is double edged sword, same time I think that there should not be specific tag for women or men (music is music, no matter of your gender) but at the same time this tag gives direct attention towards women of music.

Male and Female vocalists tend to sound different, so at least that has some sort of baring on the music, since sometimes people prefer one or the other. What I don't get is "nonbinary vocalist", like what does that even sound like?

Get yourself a quantum computer AI and generate some singing with it. It won't be in binary, it will use qubits. There's your answer.

I guess it would be a singer who identifies as nonbinary. However, in the music world, all vocal parts are considered either male (lower voice parts ) or female (higher voice parts) regardless of the gender of the person singing. For instance, countertenors are biological males, but they sing female notes. Likewise, contraltos are biological females, but they sing male notes. So, really, “nonbinary vocalists” tells us nothing about the sound of the music, but I suppose it could be useful if a NB person wants to listen to music from others who identify as NB. I’m not sure as I’m not NB.

I think you missed their point. I think they were referring to the fact that there's thousands of genres of music. For example. Lana Del Rey, and Super Unison both have "female vocalists" tags, and the music couldn't possibly be farther apart. Which is also my issue with this tag.

It's not that, I love women in a platonic way and like 80% of what I listen to are sung by women, I just don't like this pointless tag cluttering up my weekly reports. It's not a genre. Same goes with male vocalists tag too but we all know why that tag isn't common as much cause the basement dwelling autistic music nerds view women as aliens.

"Female fronted [genre]" aren't genres either, but those tags are more useful because Last.fm doesn't let users combine tags for search. I haven't relied on Last.fm tags to find music in a long time, though, since user-made playlists on streaming services are generally more useful (and specific when needed).

“I just don’t like this pointless tag cluttering up my weekly reports.” Tell me about it. Last week my Top Ten artists were all male singers or man fronted bands. My #11 most played artist was Whitney Houston. Guess what my second most played tag was in my report? (Hint: it wasn’t “male vocalists.” ) 🙄

I would personally tag a good portion of my own personal music selection as just female vocalists.
