Not a genre, it's like an umbrella term. Black and Death Metal are extreme metal genres, but, just like the description clearly specifies, bands that are hard to place in one single extreme metal genre just go by being "extreme metal" bands.

I think Cradle's only up here because the kVlts get pissed if you call them Black Metal, and they're too Blackened for Gothic Metal.
