How did kids in the 90s listen to this and still end up supporting the same shit these guys were warning them about? I mean RATM was huge. Were y'all not listen to the lyrics? Lol

The answer to your question is simple: Rage Against the Machine are posers. Why? Because on the one hand, they pushed leftist, anti-capitalist messages, yet from the very beginning they were signed to Epic Records—one of Sony's big four labels. There's no grassroots vibe here, no DIY attitude. It was calculated from the start. But whatever. I only care about the music. The lyrics don't matter much to me.

Oh right, almost forgot: the booklet for the 20th anniversary edition of the first album includes all the lyrics—except for "Killing in the Name". The original release printed every single one. Interpret that however you like.

Honestly I agree with you for the most part. It is hypocritical for them to spout anti capitalist statements while saying zip about Sony. However if they did say something, like many artists have done in the past like Micheal Jackson, they end up paying for it with their lives cause we all know major labels are run like the mafia. (I mean the entire industry was established by the mob, correct me if im wrong) However all activists have to participate in capitalism to some extent. Yes, they're making money, but there is not only nothing wrong with that, it is an absolute necessity in order to live in our society. They have to survive. Now do they need millions of dollars? Absolutely not. But I'm mostly of the opinion that the message matters more than the messenger. All the things they have said remain true. We have to dismantle the harmful systems that we all live in, and I'm glad they've used their platform to speak the truth. It's more than most mainstream artists have done.

It's a shame they rage FOR the machine now. LOL see what I did guys? I changed their name to be the opposite. I'm the first one to do that!! 😂 They talk about anti-capitalist stuff yet live in a capitalist society and have merch!! How?! 🤷♂️ They don't think the same as me about Trump and are therefore sheep unlike me, I'm independent like all the other people that don't question Trump 🐑

well, yeah, fascists have been around for thousands of years. what changed is that we've never been so close to a technological advancement so transformative that could lead to power imbalance becoming irreversible. if AGI is achieved, the idea that the power lies with the people could become a thing of the past

Tried to comprehend the phenomenon of RATM. No doubt for their rebellious lyrics but I've totally misunderstud their musical aspect. Feels like a rushed hack job and causes irritation after 10 minutes, rly.

what are they supposed to do, not accept the money and starve to death, allowing the money generated from their music to fall into the hands of powerful music companies, thus being even worse? braindead

don't even understand this "they were signed to a major label wahhhh hyro crypo hypocrites" argument. so you're a musician, not a political activist, you grew up listening to fucking bad brains or whatever, prolly working the same shitty jobs as your peers and ur still broke, having the same dumbass tastes in film and literature as any obscure music listener or history lover out there, just trying to get someone to like your music... basically you shovel shit up to the point when a major record company offers you a deal and somehow they're not even against you advocating for pretty radical ideas that you believed in while being a teenager. so you just have to be completely retarded to reject that offer... now there's still a way to call them hypocrites, cause seems like they didn't provide much of that material support for those ppl suffering from 'murican foreign policy, but that's not the argument you see on the internet, is it? and if it was, it is kinda not about the band

Nothing "edgy" about it. Rage Against the Machine have always been posers—spouting far-left talking points while being signed to a major label. Yeah, right.

more like SHILLING against the machine. in the name. they're just communists who will just do whatever a company or the American government tells them. I think they should be fired. ban large music companies to fight communism because they're using music to indoctrinate you. read between the lines this band they hate capitalism and the American dreams and you don't even realise they're heading inplane site. real eyes realise real lies. wake up. wake up. waaake uuuuppppp. peace and love

i remember back in their demos era when they supported the abortion ban. i used to think this band was on top of the world. then zach de la rocha got infected with the woke mind virus. i thought maybe his antibodies could fight the disease, he was so strongly republican back in those days. his antibodies were strong. they could fight any de-programming technique. alas, it looks like it all went to hell.. back in 1992. who knew it would take so long for us to recognize the wokeness of it all. almost as if it was some sort of annoying, recent, social construct... alas, no. it's only zach de la rocha who is woke, nothing more. no point in entertaining this thought any further. *clicks post*

I like Sony. They're such anarchists and always standing for worthy sociopolitical causes. Here Sony, take my money. Here's some more for the monopolistic touring company. Can I buy that baseball cap made in Bangladesh for $1? Spending money feels so good. Where are my SSRIs? I want to rebel like my sanitized heros.
