Let England Shake is a seriously high level piece of art. Utterly obsessed with it.

i was in a second hand bookstore with my best friend at the time a few days after my birthday the first time i heard pj harvey. the speakers were playing 'this mess we're in' and i was reading the blurb of a book when my friend told me to stop and listen to the music. we're both really into radiohead and recognised it was thom yorke singing and i pulled out my phone to shazam it or whatever because it was such a nice track and was confused because it said 'pj harvey' instead of yorke and i kept shazaming it until i looked up the track name on spotify and saw it said 'ft. thom yorke.' that track is so dear to me and i barely listen to it because i'm so scared of overplaying it but it's simply so beautiful, everytime i hear it i see vivid memories of that day out with my friend, i remember how hot it was and how much i hated my outfit and how happy i was to find a ten dollar copy of crime and punishment by dostoevsky

As someone who is pretty much into her early albums I can now say that I absolutely love her new record…wow…

I wish she'd return to her "deeper" voice that she had pre-White Chalk. She has proven she can still sing this way on A Woman a Man Walked By (2009) and the soundtrack of Bad Sisters (2022). But I'm starting to get annoyed by her higher-pitched voice that she calls her "choirgirl voice".

I think she uses her deeper a bit on the new one but not much. There's a couple tracks where she sounds a little bit TBYML-era. Which is wild because that is almost 30 years ago. If you think about some artists... Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush for instance, listening to songs by them 30 years apart have such a noticeable vocal difference.

i wanted this album to last longer, but it is perfect as it is. for me it arrives straight up there with 'white chalk' and 'let england shake'. finale in 'a noiseless noise' is transcendent, it may be the most valuable, for the entire record. at the end, everything makes sense. pure love...

It'll take me forever to rank the new album in terms of her entire discography, but I will say it's giving me the same 'holy shit' experience I got from Let England Shake.
