Farewell, sweet Brent

A sad day for Mastodon fans alike.

I have always been far from saying that but in Mastodon's case there's no one who can be replace. Their match was perfect, Troy, Brent, Brann and Bill were, for me, perfect quartet and it's realy hard to imagine Mastodon without Brent or without any other member. God damn it, very sad news, very sad day for music and for my top 2 favourite band of all time.

Whoever has to take Brent's place has a very steep hill to climb

for me brent is what made mastodon top tier, separate from any other metal band. this is really the end of an era. i'd imagine going forward they just won't be playing many brent tracks which is a huge bummer. no way they can get someone to replicate both his playing style and voice at the same time. whoever they do get (ben eller?) will probably be an incredible guitarist, but it just won't be the same

Brent is so effortlessly one of the best vocalists in rock/metal and he's an excellent guitarist on top of that, I can't glaze this guy enough

A Sad day for mastodon fans. But It's no surprise for me. Unfortunately Brent's contributions were decreasing album after album.

Absolutely shocked at Brent leaving. Favourite metal band by far. His playing, singing, writing and overall humour and bizarreness was integral to what made their sound so unique to me. Not sure if they will be the same without him... But if there's more music from him like Cold Dark Place and FWAF/WEM (proggy, country, classic rock) I'm sure he be happy making that music. I wasn't a fan of Hushed and Grim, and to some extent Emperor of Sound, maybe a bit too emotional for what I like about the band.

Great band

It was pretty obvious that Brent would leave at some point, was just a matter of time. He seemed not to care anymore about Mastodon and he made many comments for years. I suppose the others got tired of dealing with his shit as well. It was a good run, if it was for the art only they'd probably quit as not to taint their legacy, but this is not a passion project so he'll be replaced at some point by someone as capable.

Hushed and Grim's variety is truly incredible

Hushed and Grim is so poorly produced that I think it will be very very difficult to recover from an artistic/commercial point of view. it's like Tim Burton's The Planet of Apes and that Big Fish rubbish. when you do shit like that it takes years to recover.
