I've been dealing with suicidal thoughts and feeling like I'm not worth it, Low's music has been the biggest comfort to me. I never told anyone close to me about my current thoughts so Low is like me telling someone how I feel and feeling comforted. Thank You Mimi and Alan and all of the Bassists throughout the years for providing me a soundtrack to these difficult times.

their earlier albums are pretty similar. i could live in hope, curtain hits the cast, things we lost in the fire are all great if you want more sad slowcore stuff. they kinda moved in a more indie rock direction with the great destroyer and then into more experimental electronic sounds with ones and sixes/double negative, but their whole discography is very consistently good

If you're still searching - I'd recommend Things we Lost in the Fire front to back

My first introduction to Low was when I went to see Danielson Famile in 2001, imagine my jaw dropping when I first heard Mimi sing. The loss of her and Low as a band is having a bigger impact on me than I thought it would have.

i think Red House Painters has a sadder discography overall but only because they split much earlier

starting to feel like this is one of the best discographies ever. not a single album worse than, like, a 7/10.

If they have a 'worst' album, it's like an 8 imo. But those are rare and I truly don't flinch to say they have at least ten albums that are at least a 9/10. Incredible sounds. One of the most consistently brilliant bands of all time.

Last.fm sources artist information from musicbrainz, but I think it just sources formation year from the most recently formed artist called Low, in this case a German punk band: https://musicbrainz.org/search?query=Low&type=artist&method=indexed

i just found out and im sobbing listening to hey what. to spend your life from elementary school knowing someone, dating, getting married, sharing every part of yourself with without reservation, its truly a sad, heavy loss; but its also a loss most never get the opportunity to experience. alan, you are loved. mimi, you were loved.

I honestly can't imagine how Alan feels like. Just imagine spending half your life with someone, making beautiful music together and then they're no longer here. I couldn't even listen to it again, let alone perform it live. Alan is a very brave and thoughtful man if he continues to record under the Low name. RIP Mimi.

I only know them since Double Negative - which I absolutely loved instantly as an electronic music person, without knowing their previous albums. And - I didn't follow them up for a while - when I discovered they recorded another album with BJ - I also discovered Mimi passed away. Not knowing much about them, just the 2 albums: I view them as a brave musicians duo, amazing musician relationship, which should last and still be productive and take artistic chances. Some true inspiration for a bedroom musician. "Just do what you love no matter what". Fate is not fair and often just ridiculously random. And all of that leaves me with at least 1 tear when I sometimes listen to Double Negative or Hey What. R.I.P. Mimi.

I think they spent a long time preparing for her death. In the interviews and obituaries it seems clear that Alan was ready for the inevitable and they were both handling it in a way that reflected positively on their time together rather than negatively on what comes after.

My message negates your fucking previous message which was moot and not applicable to begin with because, again, you don’t know shit about what I believe. If I’m So Big Mad at people’s theistic beliefs, why are half of my top artists Xian? Pls. For the record, tho, Mormons and most Xians can eat sh1t & d1e

Most Mormons grew up in the religion, being brainwashed. Even into adulthood, delusions persist, but it's not always the believer's fault. People need to empathize a little...I grew up as a Mormon and only got out around the age of 19. The conditioning is real. The cult is also real and invalid, but you need to treat Mormons as individuals.

For me, this came out of nowhere. More connected people, of course, probably knew that Mimi had been public about her ovarian cancer diagnosis, even before Hey What came out and their tour had to stop because of Mimi's health difficulties. In the most unlikely of places, I learned of this through Rick Beato's YouTube series, when he did a video about Low inspired by the news of Mimi's passing. I did a double take: Mimi was dead?! No... it can't be. Sure enough, confirmation was easily found in a quick search of her name. I consider myself privileged to have been able to see Low perform live (during their tour for Drums & Guns). A singular talent, and classy lady, who has and will no doubt continue to inspire countless musicians to come. And to leave the rest of us in awe.

I can't stop listening to Low's music since Mimi passed. They were already one of my favourite bands but I feel now like I'm discovering so much in the hidden depths of their music that I could continue to find new layers for years to come.
