Biography
The songs of Jom Comyn strive to be bare, simple, and understated. With the restraining limits of compositional minimalism and his signature baritone voice, the initial self-released efforts of Jom Comyn have spanned different genres and approaches: downtempo singer/songwriter, wordy indie jangles, pensive instrumentals, and gusting landscapes of noise–with a touch of jazz just for fun.
The latest Sunstroke EP, released with Edmonton's noteworthy Old Ugly collective, further established his role in the Edmonton arts community as a secretive purveyor of semi-regular releases, consistent only in their ability to surprise followers and newcomers alike. Supported by a music video from Highwire Films for the single "Hatchet in Garage", the EP has charted on the local CJSR campus station, and has received attention from blogs local and distant.
Jom Comyn has played in a variety of locales and billings, has been featured on CKUA's Alberta Backstage series, and is embarking, via train, on his inaugural No Friends Tour from May 25 to June 16, 2012. Check blog and Facebook page for details and updates.
