Ah, sweet consensus. :-) Powell is in the top three of his generation of film composers (in my humble opinion) so as long as they get him to work on part 2, they can make the story as trite or dysfunctional as they like - I will still plonk down my money for a ticket. :-) The first movie was very good, they made the father-son thing work for me, and the music made it just a-mazing. :-)

I agree with the not dude.. But unfortunately those stories sell all over the world not only in the US and YES its very annoying.. Still.. dreamworks is dreamworks.. I'm anxius to watch the release of part 2. I don't think that's possible to write better music than the first movie though. Powell composed his biggest masterpiece.

@DesVandrer: I am not a "dude" and you have no reason to slight my grasp of history. There are plenty of examples of excellent father-son relationships in literature and history, as well as in reality. The point I was making was that US *movies* tend to portray *mostly* the conflicted relationships. And I find it annoying because its unimaginative and repetitive.

@ Nagamenon, read some history dude. Sons have always had issues with their dad. It is in most ancient stories. Definately not just a US thing.

Do guys in the US always have dysfunctional relationships to their dads? Every damn movie about sons and dads show failing fathers. Its extremely annoying after 20 or so movies of the same storyline. I dont know if I should feel sad for US males or if I should despise the lack of realism. Meh!

I LOVE this movie! Toothless is so CUTE! I don't care if people say this is inaccurate to the books. I loved they story, very classic, but I also love the score. <3 John Powell is a great composer, and in the list of composers I love the music of. ^_^ <3

matmen123, I just feel like there are influences in this soundtrack and song, but the song and soundtrack still feels very original and great sounding. At 3:09 I hear something like when Romeo first saw Juliet in that score.

@Thorpe @Louster This is strange, i think its a really original score, i couldnt recall any of the themes being used somewhere else before. Powell is really original, compared to most RCP composers these days.

I hear a lot of influences into just this piece, let alone the entire score. It's a great score, and it better get nominated for an Oscar or else hell will be raised. Plus, when you first see Astrid it reminds me of when Romeo first saw Juliet in the original score of Romeo and Juliet. Anyone else think/hear that?
