"Odyssey" is a seven-track album written by Digital Geist in 2005. It was written completely by Alex from start to finish and was the precursor to The Zero Engine. In many ways the album is a bridge from the older material (which was at times disjointed, in some cases badly produced and wildly varying in genre) to the more refined album released afterwards.
For one, the live performance aspect was respected more with this album than any previous. New studio equipment was purchased specifically to ensure the ability to transfer the tracks properly from the studio to the live environment while keeping a freeform feel to the work (previously, a CD player was used with backing tracks). Without the confines of a polished CD track to restrict a performance, studio created loops along with loops from sample discs were instead loaded into samplers giving unlimited possibilities in the live environment. A loop could be continued ad infinitum or discarded altogether if it did not fit the mood a crowd was setting forth.
While available in an extremely limited run (only 30 actual copies were printed), this album is now available for full download free of charge.
