albini's guitar tone sounds like scraping a fork on a plate, but like, in a good way

Original. There’s barley any difference in my opinion but I always prefer original masters when it comes to any 80s albums

still feel really weird about their music being rereleased on spotify again. albini made a very big, specific point removing their content from streaming services in protest of how unfairly they treat artists. immediately putting it up again, especially when his death is still this recent, feels really morbid to me. he clearly wouldn't have wanted this

Obviously, But Big Black were definitely one of the earlier punk bands that used guitars and Fast Drum machines that characterized 80% of the music. listen to stigmata by ministry then (title track) racer-x, literally the same song.

Big black was also a forerunner inspiration for Industrial rock / metal. Godflesh was inspired too, so it is not far fetched to say Al Jourgensen could have been inspired by Big Black some time before he became rock/metal. There are many parallels to ministry and big black. Like I said earlier about racer-x, N.W.O by ministry also uses a similar riff. Steve albini also knew of Al’s existence (quote from Steve Albini on electric audio form) “Unrelentingly stupid music in every incarnation. It takes a worldview clouded by inexperience to get anything out of this crap. It’s phony and borrowed and dress-up and superficial on every level.”

So they just kinda silently dropped his stuff on spotify again barely 2 weeks after his death, kinda weird because albini was directly protesting spotify

Hilarious how people care more about Steve's stance on Spotify royalties rather than his stance on CP and his friendship with Peter Sotos
