Pink Elephant really isn't that good, is it... It's been a long time since they put out a truly exciting album, but Pink Elephant is - in my opinion - their weakest and for the first time it kind of feels like they're reaching the end of the line. Sometimes an artist will release an album that gets tepid reviews, but you can still feel that they, themselves, think it's a great album. Pink Elephant is a different case: I think they *know* it isn't good.

This feels like the first AF album with zero bangers and true highlights. Everything Now had: title track, PUT YOUR MONEY ON ME, Electric Love, but also Creature Comfort, Signs of Life (eh), We Don't Deserve Love. WE had THE LIGHTNING, Age of Anxiety and Unconditional (good album). This one has 3 interesting songs that I put on rotation, but will come nowhere near my top 100 songs of the year list which always had at least one AF song. I did not jump on the Win hate bandwagon (even though the whole story gives me a major ick) because I love the band and value their artistry, but this album ain't it.

I feel Pink Elephant is a good album, I hope this is a transition only and not a Back to Basics as WE, that for me is their worst album is a very boring one. But at the same time, I feel they had been affect for the Win Ban and the last tour was very boring, the band have lost original members and that a very critical point for their live performance.

This new album is such a let down, I can't believe I am listening to the same band that gave me Funeral and Suburbs, There is no energy to Pink Elephant, it is just "there".

The new album is effectively a Win and Regine side project and it should have been marketed as such. The full band is almost entirely absent from the album, and it shows, both in the instrumentation and in the quality of the songwriting. There are only two tracks for which any band members other than Win and Regine are credited for songwriting or recording. Pretty disappointing. I didn't think they could produce an album of lower quality than Everything Now, but this very well may have done it.

Same. We had quite a few good song while Everything Now had quite a few annoying ones. My first impression of Pink Elephant is pretty good. More listening to do.

I like the songs proper from the new album, but it really feels more like an EP in disguise with the amount of fluff/atmospheric tracks.

this last album feels like the ideas are there, but the band isn't. if WE sounded like a flattened attempt to emulate the Funeral-Suburbs era and sound, here it looks like they are trying to bring back some of the Reflektor aesthetics, with the atmospheric interludes and synth-focused tracks, but everything just falls flat and forgettable. the total absence of creativity on some the melodies and instrumentations makes songs like Year Of The Snake, I Love Her Shadow and Circle Of Trust, which had a lot of potential, into a sea of blandness, and the second half of the album feels like some leftover demos that they had left on their phones but never put much thought into it, such a weak production. I never thought win's and regine's vocals could sound so uninspired like they sound here, it barely resembles the same people that gave us Sprawl II or It's Never Over. like WE, there are still some moments, but the soul of the band is gone. time for a hiatus or pause of some kind

I am in the minority in loving Pink Elephant, but I also loved EN and think WE is their weakest. But I love all their albums. PE is probably middle of the pack for me. I only really don't like Alien Nation and I Love Her Shadow.

Not their best by any stretch, but Pink Elephant definitely has some worthy songs.

This band has been bad since 2010, every release has been a disappointment since then, couldn't even listen to the new album for like 5 mins, such a bland toothless sound.

What happened to this band’s timeline? Win’s behavior out of the equation here for a second here… 𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵 is 𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝. I don’t think Win has ever been a notably strong lyricist - that’s been made evident over the years - but it’s never felt more apparent than now. I hesitate to call the new album “AI does AF” because I genuinely believe that modern algorithms could spit out something with a little more intrigue and staying power than what we got with LP7. I could step up to bat for a good chunk of 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘕𝘰𝘸 (in all of its goofy-ass glory)… and to a lesser extent, even 𝘞𝘌 had at least a couple of tracks that clear the generously low bar of “maybe not awful?” But for me, it’s tough to hear this new record and not feel that Arcade Fire have become a caricature of themselves. Final verdict = none in the pink, all in the stink. If elephants never forget, it’s fitting that this has likely become my final stop on a 20-year bus ride, personally.

Sexual misconduct allegations: According to a Pitchfork article published on August 27, 2022, four individuals have accused Butler of sexual misconduct, with some saying he initially contacted them on social media. Butler said all contact with the accusers was consensual, and he denies all allegations of misconduct. In a statement to Pitchfork, a representative for Butler acknowledged he had sexual interactions with each of them, but said they were not initiated by him and were consensual. Chassagne corroborated his statements. On November 22, 2022, Pitchfork published a follow-up article detailing Butler's manipulative interactions towards a fifth person. These interactions were described by the individual as "Emotionally abusive, manipulative, toxic, and using his power dynamic to exploit my body at times that were convenient for him."

They blew it with Reflektor. After winning the Grammy they were supposed to make their big leap into the mainstream. Like U2 with The Joshua Tree or R.E.M. with Out of Time. Maybe not another masterpiece but definitely something a little bit more accesible. In hindsight, it's obvious that a double album with that artwork, filled with their weakest stuff up to that point wasn't going to do much. The title track and Afterlife are the only songs worth keeping. It's quite sad to see how much they've fallen since. They were alongside Radiohead, Kanye and I guess The White Stripes the artists that were respected by pretty much every publication and site during the the first decade of this century. And now they have kind of vanished from those places. Win's "adventures" certainly didn't help. Those first 3 albums will remain untouchable though.

To be honest, Afterlife and Everything Now are the only songs of theirs that I ever heard on the radio, so they did make some songs after The Suburbs that had a bit of mainstream appeal, but I don't think they needed to become more mainstream than this... Reflektor is bloated and inconsistent, but it definitely has more than 2 good songs, I agree they have fallen off since then

lol pretty sure it's not about polyamory but the (sadly various) sexual misconduct allegations

Yeah, the ickiness of the situation has nothing to do with the polyamory. It's the dubious consent/sexual misconduct, and the way the band handled the PR. Unfortunately, dubcon and the like is triggering for many folk, including myself as I sadly found out. Reading the original P4k story gave me flashbacks to various negative violating interactions I've had; now I associate those memories with their music in a visceral, which sucks so fucking much because I otherwise love this band.
