It's interesting how a band named after a soil-borne bacterial infection can just be so bloody awesome!!! :)

Definitely one of the best bands I've seen live. In my opinion the Belladonna albums are better than the Bush albums, but there are still some absolute bangers from the JOhn Bush era!

It's interesting how Anthrax has the "lightest" sound on Big Four, but it was from them (Scott Ian and Charlie Benante) S.O.D. came out, another vibe and heavier than Anthrax itself. And for me this is amazing. Anyway still a great band.

comparing Anthrax to the rest of the big 4 kind of annoys me: Anthrax aren't even from the same scene as the other three, and play a style of Thrash that's much more hybridized with Punk and Hair Metal that's shooting for a wholly different destination than the Bay Area bands. That said Anthrax are the only band of the big 4 that are still worth seeing live, and thus are the best by default >:D

Wow I used to ignore State of Euphoria because of the mixed reception but it actually rules

I'm going to their gig in Milan tonight. I'm praying they won't play Got the Time and Antisocial (very unlikely)

Amazing discography, very consistent in quality outside of Stomp 442, Joey Belladonna is one of my favorite vocalists ever but John Bush is incredible aswell.

Stomp 442 isnt HORRIBLE but i always thought it was noticably weaker than the others. Bare is one of my favorite songs ever, i'll say. I do love the other albums they did with John a LOT though

Nahhhh even if you dont like Bush, Worship Music and For All Kings are fantastic. I do think Stomp 442 and Volume 8 are very different in terms of vibe, but not horrible. I quite like Volume 8 in particular

I've never really explored Anthrax's discography beyond Spreading the Disease, Among the Living and Persistence of Time, I love those albums tho. What other albums are worth a try?

I really prefer Bush more than Belladonna. No, Joey is good on earlier releases, my favourite one is POT, but John have more brighter vocal with awesome drive in it. Also his screaming sometimes is near Anselmo's from 90s (funny that Dan Nelson also had similar distortion vox like Phil). Of course Joey and John singing in a different styles, but in my opinion Belladonna more heavy metal than thrash and groove artist, which not very fits with Anthrax music. In my humble opinion of course.

To me Joey is exactly what sets Anthrax apart from the other thrash bands of the '80s. Very few thrash singers could actually sing, and for most part to lesser extents compared to Joey. He may have had more of a heavy metal voice but it's what made their sound truly unique among their peers. I definitely understand why some don't find it appealing, though. Coming to think of it, it seems I've a preference for thrash with "heavy metal vocals" (Anthrax, Overkill, Death Angel, Testament).

Most solid discography of the big 4 (yes, including the John Bush albums) and the best lineup from Spreading the Disease to Persistence of Time
