Biography

österreich (sometimes written Österreich, written as "オストライヒ" in Japanese) is the solo project of former the cabs guitarist Kunimitsu Takahashi (高橋國光).

österreich was ultimately conceived in the aftermath of the dissolution of the cabs in late 2013. The band's dissolution, which came as a result of Takahashi's "laziness" and mental health issues, ultimately became the catalyst that allowed for Takahashi to break out on his own.

Kunimitsu's first official release came in the form of the song "P.S. I love you momo," which appeared on the Zankyo Records Compilation Vol.3 in 2012. An instrumental and near-orchestral piece, "momo" was fairly well received along with the rest of the album.

"Munō," featuring Ai Kamano of the alternative rock band ハイスイノナサ (haisuinonasa), was his first single and the second season opening theme to Tokyo Ghoul. It features two other songs, both of which are studio versions of demos uploaded to the artist's Soundcloud late last year.

Kunimitsu revived the project in 2018 for『楽園の君』 ("Rakuen no kimi" or "You of Paradise"), which served as the ending song for Tokyo Ghoul:re Season 2. The song peaked at #40 on the Oricon charts, and marked the official return of the project. In 2020, Kunimitsu released "sisi," a mini-album featuring all new material. This was followed by『遺体』("corpse" or "Dearly Departed" in English) in 2022, another mini-album featuring new material, as well as studio versions of demos Kunimitsu had previously posted to Soundcloud.
