Description
Actress’ avant-electronica, industrial live set promises to be a genre-bending journey through dystopianism. Musical polymath and experimental composer Mica Levi DJs in support, whilst North London producer Randomer melds modern bass with classic techno and less esoteric 4/4 rhythms. Lauded for their vast, sculptural live audio-visual shows, special guests Raime show their dexterity by way of fiercely uptempo, minimal, meticulously crafted electro-acoustic rhythm tracks.
Actress, aka Darren J. Cunningham, runs the Werkdiscs label which has discovered and released some of the most widely talked about artists of the emerging bass generation, namely Disrupt, Zomby, Lukid and Starkey. As Actress he produced the exceptional Hazyville LP. He’s remixed Various Production, written for the seminal techno imprint Soma Records and has released Splazsh and more recently the R.I.P album on British independent record label, Honest Jon’s. Actress has starred in a unique cinematic portrait filmed by Pierre Debusschere as well as performing stunning live shows at Sonar Tokyo and Barcelona, Berghain, the Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern (collaborating with visual artists Yayoi Kusama and Agnes Martin), and DJ’d alongside the likes of Atoms For Peace, Juan Atkins, UR, Modeselektor, Radioactive Man, Dabrye, Kode 9 and Flying Lotus. DJ sets are variable depending on the night and mood, but generally programmed to suit afro-futuristic sounds of all persuasions.
Hailing from North London, Randomer’s discography is a snapshot of modern techno at its best. Across a six year career, he’s produced four EPs for Untold’s Hemlock Recordings and released records for Hessle Audio, Numbers and Clone. Most recently, he’s produced two releases for Ron Morelli’s L.I.E.S label, and a lo-fi workout on its sub-label Russian Torrent Versions. As a DJ, Randomer is one of London’s finest, capable of effortlessly stitching together modern bass with classic techno and less esoteric 4/4 rhythms.
One of the UK’s most intriguing artists, and now an Oscar nominated composer, Mica Levi is set to DJ Actress' night of techno and experimentalism.
Raime are Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead, a London-based duo who, via a stunning debut album, three sold-out EPs and a string of imperious live outings, have honed a dark and brooding aesthetic all of their own. Raime’s second album, Tooth, arrived in June 2016. The widescreen melancholia of their 2012 debut, Quarter Turns Over A Living Line, has given way to an urgent and focussed futurism, in the shape of eight fiercely uptempo, minimal, meticulously crafted electro-acoustic rhythm tracks. Lauded for their vast, sculptural live audiovisual shows, fans will be treated to Raime’s explorations into the DNA of dub-techno, garage/grime and post-hardcore rock music spliced into predatory new forms.
