PRESENTED BY ROOM40

---
TIM HECKER
Tim Hecker's music is focused on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody, fostering an approach to songcraft which is both physical and emotive.

"One of Canada's most celebrated sound artists imbuing electro-magnetic b-rolls with humanity and grace." - Pitchforkmedia.com

"foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole" - The New York Times

Born in Vancouver, Canada and now based in Montreal, Tim Hecker has produced a range of audio works over the last 15 years for Kranky, Alien8, Mille Plateaux, Room40, Force Inc, Staalplaat, and Fat Cat.

In 2009, Tim released 'An Imaginary Country' via Kranky and further cemented his reputation as a singular and significant entity in the world of contemporary music.

'Harmony in Ultraviolet', perhaps the record that's come to exist as the benchmark of his sound was one of Pitchfork's top recordings of 2006. Radio Amor had already been recognized as a key recording of 2003 by Wire magazine.

His work has also included commissions for contemporary dance, sound-art installations, minimal techo works under the name 'Jetone', as well as various writings. Tim has presented his work in a live setting around the world, including performances at Sonar (Barcelona), Mutek (Montreal), Primavera Sound (Barcelona), Victoriaville (Quebec), Vancouver New Music Festival (Vancouver), and Transmediale (Berlin). He currently resides in Montreal.

MACHINEFABRIEK

Machinefabriek (Rutger Zuyderveldt from Rotterdam, Holland) is amongst the finest experimental/electronic artists of recent years – his ultra-prolific back catalogue showcases his ability to perfect classical ambience, organic drone soundscapes, electronic minimalism and cathartic noise, and he has been hailed as one of the most interesting new experimental musicians by the Wire magazine. His show for Forest of Sound last May was amazing, so expect this to be pure class.

”Lawine’ showcases the singular talent of Rutger Zuydervelt, his ability to morph from near-absolute sonic stilness to noise jams with slow, barely descernible stealth” - THE WIRE

”QUITE POSSIBLY ONE OF THE FINEST ALBUMS OF THE YEAR… Rutger Zuydervelt has married the smart post rock sensibility of Mogwai with something far more experimental and the crunchy turntablism of Jeck with something far more accessible. The resulting sound is a deeply immersive collection of experiments, populist sounds with a noisy bent, or post rock without the rock.” - BOOMKAT

SIMON SCOTT

Simon is the former Slowdive drummer who puts out international experimental music with integrity on his label KESH Recordings. Through Simon’s dimly-lit soundscapes, we encounter shimmering melodies that gather and disperse through apocalyptic rhythms, surrounded by layers of harmony that hover over found-sounds. Simon has also collaborated under the moniker Seavault (Morr Music) with A.Ryan from Isan, and also goes under the name Televise.

His debut album Navigare was released on Erik Skodvin’s (aka Deaf Center / Svarte Greiner) Miasmah label, to great acclaim, and is due to be followed by the Nivalis EP in early 2010.
"Scott is particularly adept at layering coolly shimmering guitars and dark churning currents of noise into something vast" THE WIRE

"...as we approach the end of the ‘Navigare‘ tale the listener is left in a state of exultation knowing they have just listened to what has to be one of the best Miasmah releases to date." 10/10 - FLUID RADIO
