It's realyl great, quite shocking in a way, very harsh and brutal childhood. You can see why ended up with such a fiery temper. I'm working through it slowly as I got loads of other music books too. Really love his stuff though, went for it in a big way in 2006. Will get Weird Nightmare, thanks!

See the Julie London thing on BBC4? The only channel that does good music stuff regularly now. The Howard Goodall thing on C4 was great, though. Hope you had a fab Xmas.

Yeah seems really great, but it's taking a while to sink in. I'm going through all his Atlantic stuff, marvellous. Also getting his auto-biog for Xmas, which is supposed to be a fab read.

Andy, how's it going? So far, the best Mingus I've heard has been Blues & Roots, especially his astounding tribute to Jelly Roll Morton. Can you recommend anymore of his stuff that swings as much as that record? In love with the song A Foggy Day too, amazing stuff.

Nice mix of styles...I'm surprised we aren't weekly neighbours, actually, cause I've been hitting a lot of the same stuff. Thelonious Monk, Django Reinhardt, Burning Spear, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington etc. Charles Mingus...there's one I've been meaning to get into for a while, any advice on where to start?
