the difference is u can use a string to tie things up but u cannot use god to do anything constructive. Or the string theory is interesting to explore while the concept of god is rather boring.

I'm not commenting on users of the term, only on the term itself (& its inventors, perhaps). My original comments were about the term in general, not about last.fm - though here it's not clear what use the tag is; it doesn't say much about the music, because it's applied to such a vast range. Partly for the same reason I don't tag music African, European, usw, but use country names.

First, it's the word that has chauvinistic overtones, not listening to the music (and no-one mentioned Nazism or racism). Secondly, it's not about last.fm, but about the use of the term in general, and its general emptiness. It's just a marketing tool, invented fairly recently. The more one knows about the pseudo-genre, the more one realises that it makes little or no sense.
