in contrast to misterjunior i would like to say i think this album is a bona fide work of art, riveting from start to finish, capturing the vibe of the original score but bringing a brilliant modern twist. this is not a "metal" album, not even remotely. it's so much more. this, along with california, disco volante and angel dust, is the greatest thing patton ever put his name to. it's flawless.

Was this a thread with RiffmasterRick? I've just noticed that he apparently deleted his account, because he was arguing with (and blocked) me elsewhere and those comments have disappeared. Incidentally, no disrespect intended to you or anyone who likes the album-- I just don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I do the other Fantômas stuff. I do like it, though. I really wish they would record again.

This doesn't sound much like Mr. Bungle at all and I would rate it was the weakest Fantômas album. The others are all incredibly creative and unique and have interesting overarching concepts, while this one is just a collection of slightly off-kilter "metalized" film scores. It's certainly not a bad album by any means but it's not a patch on any of the band's other albums (or anything Mr. Bungle did, for that matter).

I sounded a little pissy in that comment, reading it back. I didn't mean to, so sorry about that. Anyway, unfortunately I do stand by my assessment of this album. I love film music/scores and as I said in my previous comment, I've been thrilled with most of Fantômas' other albums -- they've always been so surprising and engaging and pushed boundaries and kept me on my heels as a listener -- but this one just sounds for the most part exactly like what I would expect a Metal band playing film scores to sound like. It feels like the novelty that some critics have occasionally dismissed this band as being on other occasions (I don't think it has ever been applicable besides with this record). I've given it plenty of opportunities to click with me and it's pleasant enough but it just doesn't even come close to wowing me the way the other stuff does. Also just as another bit of griping, the sound of the disc is a little muddy compared to the flawless sound of the other three they've done.

I wish I weren't so anal about tags. My tags on this are completely opposite. Fucking amazing album though.

I saw them at the Melb BDO. It was amazing... Mike, Buzz, Trevor, Dale... GODS! Does anyone who was at that show know what that "Gonna tie my pecker to a tree to a tree" song is?

I had the privilege of seeing Fantômas play The Director's Cut in it's entirety yesterday at The Big Day Out on The Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The stage was smallish and the crowd was modest so it was just perfect and all I can say about the experience HOLY MOTHER OF GOD FUCK

This album is apparently going to be played in it's entirety in Australia too. Fantomas are the support act on Serj Tankian's Aussie shows. In Sydney the concert's set to be on the 24th of January, 2009, at the Enmore Theatre: http://www.last.fm/event/844768. If I manage to get tickets and I go, I may be very close to passing out from exhileration.

I'm listening to it right now for the first time and I must say, I haven't heard much of Fantomas, but I think it's great so far...
