Otaku is a Japanese term used to describe people with obsessive interests, such as anime, manga, or video games. It is derived from a term for house, used as a second-person honorific. The term has some negative connotations in Japan, but more recently has been used as a positive identifier of a subculture in Japan, the United States, and elsewhere.
