Dream folk is a fusion of the ethereal atmospheres and textures of dream pop with more stripped-down acoustic-based folk songs. Dream folk artists sometimes develop a mysterious persona, and tend to incorporate surrealistic or gothic themes with traditional folk music ideals and imagery. The artist most often associated with the label is Marissa Nadler.
Over the past few years, the term has grown in popularity, and it has been both adopted and shunned by many practitioners of the genre.
