The Grus is an experimental/downtempo music duo from a remote Russian village, consisting of members Shura Zhuravleva (vocals, keyboards, artwork) and Simon Gendor (synths, samplers, tapes, guitars, production). They are known for creating a unique sound that blends trip-hop, downtempo, and experimental electronic music with heavy influences from gospel, blues, lo-fi and ambient. The Grus music features Shura Zhuravleva's voice, analogue synths, vintage Soviet-era guitars, tape recorders, handmade instruments, and even recordings of singing birds. The duo has also experimented with "natural mastering" by burying their tape recordings in the ground for a month to age them.
