Saw the Miki Berenyi Trio earlier this week in one of their few US shows. Miki's voice is in great shape. The audience went NUTS for Ladykillers as well as Kiss Chase and Light From A Dead Star.

Also Emma founded her group Sing Sing after Lush disbanded. Miki and Emma were media darlings of the UK Press. Miki may have gotten more attention and if one reads her book, it makes one think if Emma would've liked to be the center of attention and the resulting damage...probably not.

You probably do need some competition and rivalry to drive people to their best - both for inspiration and more importantly, just to work that much harder. Of course, as in all things, there's a balance. Too much of that kind of thing, and bands implode. Way too many great bands fell apart in their prime or even just before hitting it, all because of creative and personal conflicts. Too little, and bands get complacent, repetitive and boring. Lush, sadly, didn't last, and if Miki's book is accurate, probably wouldn't have lasted even if Chris had lived. Still, compared to most, they maintained something closer to a healthier balance and outlasted nearly everyone else from the OG shoegaze era, with a respectably sized discography to show for it. And managed to reunite long enough for an EP and a kick-ass tour. I'm sad it didn't last, but I'm happy they did as well as they did.

i just finished miki's book, i now look at the band in a different light (in a good way!!!) and appreciate them and every song even more. these guys are my happiness <3 miki and emma are one of the reasons i've started to learn the guitar! also i need a bf who will listen to lush with me on repeat.

I'm already happily married, unfortunately, so I can't exactly help you there. But man, this would have been music to my ears before I met my wife. Trust me - there are plenty of dudes - probably a bit shy and awkward - who'd think they hit the proverbial jackpot if they met a lady who wanted to listen to Lush with them on repeat. And who was playing the guitar because Lush inspired her on top of that? How cool is that? Your future bf will be one very lucky man indeed, and you should remind of him of that from time to time.
