Grade 8 formed in 1996 in the Los Angeles area. They signed with Lava Records in 2002, and released their self-titled debut album grade 8 on February 11, 2003. The band also appeared at Ozzfest that same year. On August 13, 2003, it was reported that after they fired a part of the band and subsequently had been dropped off the remainder of the Ozzfest tour, their label withdrew their tour support.
