I've always thought the slow bit in the middle sounded an awful lot like The Beads of Innocence from the film Psych Out. I'm sure this came first ;)

I bought this album when I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB, in Great Falls, MT. I was a weatherman in support of F105's and Hueys and the Minute Man missile sites and their CREWS. I would lay in the barracks listening to this completely mesmerized by this stuff.......of course i was first transported away by Mussorgsky when I was 5. I never had in my life encountered anyone who had pot. I was out of the Air Force and in college when the first 'DUDE' said duywanna blaze a joint? Ohhhh, dear merciful GOD. I was healed , for the first time in my life. Music hath such charms as can make us thirsty for GOOD!!!!!

For you kids that dig this, I used to listen to it laying on my bunk in the barracks. In the summer of '69 I wore out two LP's just playing them over and over. This was the first tune on the radio over the 3 minute barrier. This set new standards. As did the whole album. I've had 'em memorized since then.

By far the best thing this band did, blows the rest of their stuff (and the San Fran. scene) out of the water. The only other track that captures the American psych experience at its most sublime is "Calvary" by QMS. This is Eastern and that is Western. The original EP version is FAR superior to the later album version.
