Idiots-Rule: As a fan of all those types of bands and a huge Shadows Fall fan I've got to say Shadows Fall is the odd one out. SF is very thrash influenced and isn't as groove-oriented. If you haven't heard them I'd check out early Machine Head, Fear Factory and Meshuggah. If you want to stick with Shadows Fall I'd say War Within or Art of Balance.
These guys keep popping up as suggestion everywhere when I listen to bands like Chimaira, DevilDriver, Lamb of God and stuff like that, but I don't feel these guys' music at all. Can somebody point me in the right direction? The top-songs on Spotify don't really appeal to me that much.
New group opened up called: metal singers with a wide range of vocal styles, which you can find here: http://www.last.fm/group/metal+singers+with+a+wide+range+of+vocal+styles please feel free to join and enhance my / our list with awesome metal singers in our forum.
Don't listen to the elitists when they tell you "x" genre sucks and only "y" genre(s) are good. They're losers, who want to make naive (not experienced) people feel bad about themselves, and attention. The new bands, a lot of people like them and a lot of people don't. Ask yourselves though, is it normal to go into every comment section of those 'poser' bands and rage how these bands suck and their fans are faggots for listening to them? Would a person who's secure in him or herself do that? Another thing is, these people don't really want you to change. They don't care if after reading their spam you will listen to that Malevolent Creation record, or to the Mayhem demo recorded with a potato. They couldn't care less. They just want to make other people feel like shit or get attention from others to feel better after their shitty day. They complain about the herd mentality of new fans of metal, but the same thing applies to them. /Endrant.
Today I started to listen to these guys again. Before today I had no scrobbless of these guys on my last fm account but they were one of the very first metal bands I got into, they were among the first to get me into the genre. I stopped listening to them in 2008 just as my 'elitist' phase started, when 99% of the stuff I was listening to were old school thrash metal bands. Last year I came to conclusion that being elitist didn't give me much benefits at all and I still could listen to all the KoRns, SlipKnots and SOADs (which were also among first rock bands i listened to) and not throw up, so I got back to listening to all these bands I dug back when I was a teen. I'd like to advise young fans; if you like a modern metal band (or modern rock band) very much and then find true metal or what not, by all means do listen to that and expand ur horizons but don't abandon your first major metal fascinations, you'll be missing them later on in your life.
I love the riffs, shredding solos, and driving precise drumming. Sure, they aren't the most br00tal or technical metal band ever, and that is just fine with me. The overall driving consistent sound is rocking. Great energy in their live performances too.
And if you aren't joking, I just want to say you "true metal" types are the hipsters of metal. Like nu metal or not (I still think that term should only apply to the bands that used rap elements,) it is still metal. As far as core genres go, I don't know what I listen to is core, I don't give a shit about labelling my collection in 50+ genres.
TheAncientGlory is tr00 kvlt metalhead, rapeing virgins, goat bl00d drinking son of odin :DD who listens to tr00 metal
I hope one day I can be as trve as you. Can you teach me to be a trve kvlt metalhead and how to not like other genres of music? They just aren't trve enough for a tr00 metalhead. Can you also teach me to say a band isn't metal when they obviously are? I heard that's a big part of being trve as well. Thanks in advance. Stay trve.
