The boys' debut effort, produced by Yan Etchevary, delivers a simple, dreamy sound, where classic piano melodies and beautiful vocal layering create what they describe as "mock-nostalgic flair." Sonically, In Days of Yore feels of another era, though its lyrics speak to contemporary LGBTQ concerns—"themes of identity, the anxieties and beauty of the queer experience, as well as the impermanent simplicity of youth," the Curry twins told OUT.
All five songs deserve a listen, but Pansy Boys' EP closer, "Pretty Thoughts" notably pays homage to queer trailblazers, including Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Judy Garland and David Bowie. "It was just a dream," the two repeat wistfully, above twinkling atmospheric production that aptly feels equal parts Dorothy and Ziggy.
"As gay twins, queer representation and intersectionality is an important creative drive in our work—something that we place importance on throughout our creative process," the Curry twins said.
